A few questions about an upcoming cruise on the Freedom

4) My oldest daughter is literally going to be less than 3 weeks away from her 12th birthday while we're cruising. And it seems like 12 is a magic number to do some of the "teen" events. Do they treat that as a hard line, or if there is something she wants to do that is listed for 12-14 year olds, will she be able to participate?.

you are going during a high peak family sailing time.

I would leave her in the 9-11 as the next group is too cool for programing and they tend to hang out around the ship more then doing the group activities.

(she will not be able to bounce from program to program)

if you want her to go with the older kids- talk with the counselor the first night at orientation and see what they can do for her-- make no promises just in case

When looking at the cruise compasses from past sailings, I noticed that they had a couple of events - one for a "teen ice skate" in the rink that was for ages 12-14 and another for a soccer game for "teens" 12-16. I'm mostly wondering if they would allow her to participate in those type of events.

she will NOT be able to hop from group to group

those activities are for the kids in the age group.

the ice rink will be for the kids ages 12-14

Unless its from skate then she can go too

the soccer event-- even if she is gonna be 12 in a few weeks do you really want her hanging with the 16 year olds??

So the skating is only for the kids who have signed up for the 12-14 kids club? Like, if a 13-year-old showed up at the rink at the time of the 12-14 skate, but he'd never been to any of the other kids club activities - they would turn him away?

As for the soccer thing, she's been playing and practicing with 16 year old boys and girls since she was 10. Playing pickup against them on the ship wouldn't anything new to her.

no, the 13 year old will be able to participate. but like posted if this is a private club activity - the 13 year old will not know its being done unless he grabbed the activity sheet from the club at orientation

The only reason I know about it is because I was looking at a previous cruise compass. It's listed among all the other daily activities. So anyone on the ship would be able to see it printed in the regular cruise compass.

interesting. I have not ever seen kids activities listed on the regular activity sheets-- maybe I just wasn't paying that close attention to it.

1) When we were on a month ago, they were a little strict with the karaoke and actually told people under 18 they couldn't sing at the "adult karaoke". They mentioned that there is family karaoke available, but I'm not sure when/where. I posted the compasses lately from that cruise, so the family/kids karaoke may be listed in those (http://s1311.photobucket.com/user/canadiantyler/library/Freedom%20of%20the%20Seas%20compasses) but they could also have been listed in the kids' compasses which I don't have copies of.

2) When we missed Coco Cay on that sailing, we arrived into St Thomas approximately two hours early.

If we recall, the family karaoke was in the schooner lounge, not sure of the time but it's not late. We didn't like it there, it's right outside of the casino and the stale smoke was awful, and it's too bad because we usually love the Schooner Bars

  • 5 months later...

In addition to Adult Karaoke, they had one night of Family Karaoke on my sailing. Also, Freedom has Karaoke booths where you can go in at anytime of the day and do Karaoke. There won't be a crowd watching, but it gives you the feeling of doing it and is sometimes better for getting over stage fright for the younger ones.

Both karaoke booths were inoperable in January.

Does anyone have an update on them?
