Luggage Weight Restrictions

I know they say that it is a 50lb per bag weight limit, and I heard they've actually gotten strict about it. One of us was slightly overweight on the flight down and I'm just wondering if we should pack an extra suitcase or if we'll be ok if we're at like 55 lbs or so?

Thanks.

On our last cruise, there was no check whatsoever. The porters took the luggage with no mention of weight. My husband's luggage was about 5 lbs over. Fortunately, they didn't charge us on the flight (or we would have had to reorganize) and there was no issue for the cruise.

It's lifted up by the dock porter, tossed on a cart, and that's it. No weighing at all. However, I do try and keep the luggage at a reasonable weight for their personal safety and comfort, especially for the room stewards who have to handle the luggage later taking it to the rooms. I figure fifty, more or less, should be enough.
