Help - Question About Embarking in Miami

Hi all

We will be on the Carnival Splendor out of Miami on May 7th. Normally we always travel the day before and pick up our soda and wine at that time, but this time we will be in Orlando with family the week before flying from Orlando to Miami that morning.

What I don't know is from the airport to the cruise port if there is a place we can ask the cab driver to stop (and will they) to pick up wine and a 12 pack of cans for our room...Carnival is charging $20 for 12 sodas delivered to our room plus as you know wine per glass will add up quickly since we like to have a glass of wine several times during our cruise with dinner and we are allowed to each take one bottle (carry on) which is a nice savings.

Where we live there is very little off the interstate from our airport so not sure what it is like in Miami.

Thanks in advance for the info.

generally, it is a straight shot interstate from the airport to the port. And if they take the tunnel, then nothing... However, I am sure you can request they go downtown, there is a Walgreens at the corner of Flagler and 1st as well as a few other Walgreens around... You just have to find a taxi driver willing to stop, and of course pay for the wait time etc, not sure if it would be cost effective in the end? ... The other option, is to wait till your first port of call and buy it there...

It's a flat rate of $27 from MIA to the port. Will probably cost more to add in a stop. I know there is a CVS near the port. Getting it at the first port is not an option as it will be taken when you board and held until the end of the cruise. You can always ask the cab driver what the cost would be to stop. Even paying for that extra stop will be cheaper than buying 2 overpriced bottles on board. :)

Do you have time to go to the port and drop off bags? Then grab another taxi to Bayside Marketplace. There is a CVS Pharmacy right across the street from the amphitheater there. I believe there is a liqour store right across the street from the CVS too.

Otherwise, (1) see if the taxi could take you down to Bayside and wait, or (2)drop your bags at the ship, get back off the ship and walk (30 mins) to Bayside and spend a little time, walk back and enjoy your cruise.

You might seriously consider driving from Orlando to Miami. It will be less expensive and it will probably be faster from door to door.

Have you considered going to a liquor store in Orlando and packing the wine before your flight to Miami? Before you check-in at the cruise terminal, make sure to take it out of your checked luggage and place it in your carry-on. If you don't, it will be confiscated. I know it's a headache, but it is an option.

Money talks, and taxi drivers will make a quick stop before going to the port -- for the right price.

Another poster did mention that you could drop off your bags, hope in a taxi, and go to CVS and/or Walgreen's. Would probably cost you about $20 round trip.
