Advanced Seating on Southwest

DW and I prefer for each of us to purchase EB seating. We do this because I, in particular, prefer "aisle" seats for the extra "shoulder" room associated with the seat(s). By purchasing EB, we can generally find aisle seats which are across from each other and generally about half-way back in the aircraft. Moreover, space is generally available in the "overhead" for our carry-on bags. Very convenient. On assigned seat airlines, the aisle seats are generally the last to board. On the last couple of trips, when we found our assigned seats people were already in them and refused to move. The result was finding a flight attendant to move the person(s) to their assigned seat(s) with the accompanying "stink eye" looks. The overheads were also completely full and we were forced to place our carryon bags under the seat or be checked. In short, Southwest EB boarding works very well for us and is well worth the price of the convenience.

Honestly, it's pretty sad that we as decent human beings can't work things out when we board a plane so that every child is sitting with a parent, traveling companions are sitting near each other whenever possible, and no one gets upset if their seating isn't perfect. Instead, we give an airline extra money so that we can fight for first dibs. :confused: Ten years ago, when we flew to Orlando on a cheap airline that assigned people's seats for them if they didn't pay, putting children far away from their parents, everyone on the plane moved around so that families were together.

What do most cruisers do to get advanced seating on return home trip on Southwest when at sea? Do you buy computer time to get advanced seating or do you pre-pay $12. to get advanced seating before you leave for the cruise? We have never bought computer time on our past cruises but we have heard of poor and slow connections. What's the best way?[/quote

pay the fee for priority boarding

 

Money well spent for being able to board first and get overhead space near your seat for carry-on's, and not worry you might be stuck with a middle seat not necessarily with people you are traveling with!
