Future cruise credit

Recommended Posts

We are sailing on Anthem IN THREE WEEKS!!! and are considering putting down a deposit for another cruise. Sorry a little excited! :o

We have done this several times with Princess and wonder how it works with Royal Caribbean.

Do you get better deals if you book on board? How much do you put down? How long does the deposit last? Does it give you extra on board spend? Low deposit etc?

By the way, "future cruise credit" actually refers to something else. That's when Royal Caribbean offers you credit toward a future cruise, usually due to a problem on a previous cruise.

The terms for what you mean that you should use with Royal Caribbean are "NextCruise", "onboard booking", or also "open booking" (since those have to be made onboard).

As leaveitallbehind mentions, the benefit to making an onboard booking is that you get a reduced deposit (amount varies by cabin category and cruise length) and a matching onboard credit that you can choose to receive on the current sailing or on the future cruise that you're booking.

What if you are not sure which sailing you want? Can you still do it?

Yes, just pick any random date. That's why I mentioned about taking the OBC on the current cruise. Of you elect to take the OBC on a future cruise they might allow you to change the date once before reducing your OBC.

According to the fine print UK residents are allowed to make changes to these bookings.

You can create an Open Booking that has a reduced deposit, a booking number and doesn't become active until you convert it to a specific itinerary.

Once converted your OBC will be

Length of Cruise

5-7 days ........... $25

8-10 days ......... $50

11-14 days........ $75

15 + days...........$100

One more thing with the Next Cruise Certificate(NCC). For US bookings you can either put the NCC with either RC or your travel agent. Whichever way you set up the NCC is how you have to book your next cruise. So if you put it in your travel agents name you have to use them to book your next cruise. If you put it in RC name you can book with them. It is easy to switch from RC to TA but to switch from TA to RC or another TA you need to have the original TA do the switching. So you are pretty much locked in with the original TA.

I prefer to book with RC and then switch to the TA I use and receive all their incentives. They even take care of the switching. I believe you have 60 days from booking to switch.

Your rules may be different.
