Whitnee1 Posted March 14, 2016 #1 Share Posted March 14, 2016 Have a BTB booked on the Gem same stateroom for both weeks. Will we have to get off the ship in between?
Medtech2 Posted March 14, 2016 #2 Share Posted March 14, 2016 Have a BTB booked on the Gem same stateroom for both weeks. Will we have to get off the ship in between? Yes, you usually have to get off, walk through customs, then you will be first back aboard and can enjoy everything before anyone else gets aboard... Demonyte Posted March 15, 2016 #3 Share Posted March 15, 2016 Yes, since Gem only has itineraries starting and ending in US, you will need to clear the ship. That is an US regulation and not needed for example in European itineraries.
casofilia Posted March 15, 2016 #4 Share Posted March 15, 2016 Yes as USA Authorities require a "Clean" or "Clear" ship. It even had to happen in Vancouver between Alaska and Pacific Coastal cruises.
Big Al B. Posted March 15, 2016 #5 Share Posted March 15, 2016 We gathered in the Bliss lounge and were escorted off the ship to a waiting area in the terminal. After a short wait, we were allowed back on. Only problem was that not much of anything was open and we couldn't get back to our rooms easily. cmdchiefthom Posted March 15, 2016 #6 Share Posted March 15, 2016 We did three BTB's aboard the Jade in Europe a couple of years ago, but our cruises were booked together as one and our key cards had a sticker that said "Still on Vacation". We did have to meet in at one of the lounges, and were escorted off the ship and went out exploring Venice both times we ported there. When we returned two hours before sail away, all we had to do is check back through security, show our passports, and head right through to Ship's security. No big deal. Our upcoming cruises aboard the Gem are scheduled the same way, as one single cruise. So I would imagine, as "Big Al B." mentioned, we meet in Bliss, and are escorted off the ship to return, most likely when we wish, up to an hour before sailing. To re-board we should only need to show our ID and key cards to port security and hop aboard. U.S. Citizens don't require a Passport to enter Puerto Rico, but the ID requirements are for a government issued photo ID. For all other nationalities, the rules for entering the United States apply to Puerto Rico. My wife and I are so ready for this cruise:)
