Butler Question

We are booked in a suite for the first time and wonder if it is expected to tip every time you have cabin service? When we have had verandah cabins, when the breakfast was delivered, we alway tipped, as well as any other room service order. Of course, we know the butler deserves a tip for the entire cruise, but just wondered if it is expected. Thanks.

No you don't. Some do, some don't. We give our butler $20 to $30 a few days in, on a 2 week cruise, and then maybe 4 or 5 days later, and then some more the last night. Usually on two weeks we average about $125 ??? but then again we don't use them very much, and certainly not for making phone calls to reserve things. We can do that! We also don't like being walked to the theatre by our butler on chic nights. Seems kind of pretentious. We're easy.

We did tip extra one time when he set up a very beautiful display for a cocktail party we held in our suite. He fixed the tables and brought in lots of shrimp and nuts, cheese, fruit both fresh and dried, and glasses, all kinds of fancy tablecloths, and some fresh flower arrangements (small ones). There was no charge for any of it but we did of course tip him well.

We've never had anything more than breakfast delivered. Perhaps a dinner by course we'd tip $10 or something like that. But we prefer to be out and about the ship in the evenings.

I like to have some fresh berries almost every day and we like to have different things like shrimp, a cheese plate, fresh veggies and hummus (on alternate days) in the afternoon when he delivers canapés.

It's really personal. I've heard of people not paying a penny extra and I've known of people who pay $500 for their butler on a two week cruise.
