Rosethorn40 Posted March 23, 2016 #76 Share Posted March 23, 2016 Just using the Caribbean as an example: The newer ships tend to go to the same old ports, and usually are just 7 days in length. However, I love many of the bells & whistles myself; expanded thermal suites in the spas, more dining options, etc. I think the newer ships tend to be more expensive as well. Older ships may be more convenient, depending on where you live, as its usually the older ships that sail from ports such as Charleston, Baltimore, New Orleans, Tampa, or Galveston. They may have more interesting itineraries, and you may find ones that range from 10-14 days (Or longer). They are also the ones used for the 3-5 day cruises which may be a better option if low on vacation time, or need a quick getaway. They also tend to give the better value as prices are usually lower on an older ship. For me it depends on what I am looking for. In December we are sailing on both the Vista and NCL's Escape, and the ship is the destination. Our upcoming cruise to Bermuda is on the Celebrity Summit because it gave me the best value (Both NCL's Getaway & HAL's Veedam were double what I paid for the Summit)
esdoorn Posted March 24, 2016 #77 Share Posted March 24, 2016 Smaller fantasy class ship if I'm going to HMC, I'd rather only share the island with 1999 other people then 3999 you get with the bigger ships. .
cruzin Phillis Posted March 25, 2016 Author #78 Share Posted March 25, 2016 That is why I want to do a cruisetour package with HAL. I know RC has them but the itineraries look better on HAL That is my goal but I have to wait til DS is old enough to hang on a cruisetour!! cruzin Phillis Posted March 25, 2016 Author #79 Share Posted March 25, 2016 Usually a bigger casino...A larger pool, deck. Sensation was my 1st cruise and it just ruined me.. In a good way of course. Had such a blast and was so pampered. Crew was awesome. Just fabulous. Then I went on the Dream... I loved deck 5.. And the cove balcony. And that there was plenty of shaded seating around the pools. Of course huge casino with great selection. Loved the big hot tubs on deck 5. Again.. Pampered. Then the Sunshine. The adult pool was so small... Too small. But the sound of the waterfall made up for it.. And plenty of shaded spots to enjoy the waterfall sounds. Also enjoyed a dive in movie with the stadium seating... One of my fav cruise memories. All have been wonderful cruises... And I think I cruise more for the ship than the ports. On the magic, the shaded seating by the pool was our go to spot!!! Love the sun but do not meed to be in the sun!! I want to try the sunshine but interested in going on the Vista!!
ethanfite56 Posted March 25, 2016 #80 Share Posted March 25, 2016 (edited) I was open to any class ship when I was looking for a cruise, but the Breeze was a good deal so we ended on that. Like other people said, I'm spoiled since the Breeze has pretty much everything and is the newest ship. I want to try a new ship now, but I'm only looking at Dream and maybe Conquest class. I often cruise during the off season so that I can enjoy them without being too crowded. Its a good balance for me of relaxation and things to do. AZmike480 Posted March 25, 2016 #84 Share Posted March 25, 2016 I like both for different reasons. I like the older ships because there smaller and less people are on them. The thing I don't like about the small ships is the old chessy decor and not having all the specialized places the new ships have. The new ships are nice because the variety of restaurants and bars, and the more modern decor. I also like the larger swimming pools and sundeck areas. I'd like to trip one of these mega ships, like allure of the seas or oasis of the seas. It would be fun to experience something that size one day. Went on oasis and it felt like a resort than a ship. There was so many places to eat and things to do that one week (or maybe two) will no cut it. I do like carnival because there have reasonable prices and thier ships are fun as well. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk

dave_k58 Posted March 25, 2016 #87 Share Posted March 25, 2016 I personally love the newer ships. But in comparison to older ships not having as much to do or see, that I don't agree with. They might look dated but there is just as much fun to be had. Especially since just about every older ship has had a 2.0 upgrade. I personally miss the Alchemy Bar on the newer ships since the upgrades went to the older ships. Ah well. Most of the older ships do NOT have the 2.0 upgrades. Check the carnival.com explore the ships to see all the things they don't have.

kellbellscruise Posted March 25, 2016 #90 Share Posted March 25, 2016 I booked my first cove balcony on the breeze. Looking forward to it!! Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk You won't be sorry. I actually passed on a 2 category upgrade because I wanted the cove balcony.... ONLY complaint for me about cove balc is that since you are so close to the water you don't get that rocking feeling.. Which I loved at night on the Sensation. Other than that.. We love them. Congrats!! Oh and ps. One of my friends fav ship is the Breeze... He went on it about 12 times before it left Ft Lauderdale (?) and he lives about 1 hr from Port Canaveral. He is semi retired and goes all the time.
