The Escape Live 4/2!!

Recommended Posts

They started calling group 1 boarding around 11:30. Group 10 was called and we were on the ship before 12. They announced cabins are ready at 12:35. All the boys went to the cabin to change and I'm saving our prime chairs. Probably the best chairs we will have all week! [emoji6]

So just a few observations while we are still in port and I can depend on the slowness of AT&T instead of the slowness of the ships wifi.

1. My husband brought his Yeti coozie and his beer is just as cold after 15 min in the sun as it was when he got it. I'm jealous and plan to steal it at my first opportunity.

2. It is unclear to me right now how I go about using the iconcierge texting feature (we bought on all four phones to keep track of the teenagers. I'll let you know how they work) without eating our 250 minutes we bought. (Yes, we only bought 250, not the unlimited. We will see how stealthy I can be with writing before I post!) I'll have to figure that out soon.

3. We are in a mid-ship mini suite. This being our first NCL cruise I can only say wow, they feel small compared to Royal. The bathroom, however, is really nice and big so that's good. The balcony is about 1/3 smaller than on Royal.

4. I can't really complain about anything because this trip was never supposed to happen. The boys are going to Peru this summer for ten days with school so that's where our vacation budget was spent. Soooo, a good price and UBP on Norwegian plus a little tax return and here we are! Pretty much nothing will be a complaint, only observation.

5. Good to know for those worrying about specialty dining reservations: once on board I was able to book basically any reservation I wanted for the four of us. Every day and almost every time was available. I used the iconcierge app and making reservations is free on there. Super easy!!

6. We tipped our waiter at the pool $5 with the first order and now he keeps coming by and asking if "mama needs another beer". Yes Reinze, yes I do.

Hopefully I remember this correctly: To use the messenger on the iconcierge - open it up, and instead of looking on the left side of the screen (where you made reservations, etc.) look at the top right side - you'll see a dialog bubble. Click on that. It will say either phone or messenger (for texts). You should be able to see your (iconcierge) number, and a place to add contacts. Down below you will see "contacts" and also "messages". Hope that helps. It's really easy once you figure out how to start. I had my son text me first since he's better that these things - which then added his contact to my iconcierge automatically.

Have a great time! We just got off this morning, you were probably one of the early birds in the waiting area that I was jealous of as we descended the escalator!

If you talk to Silas tell him that the guy from Chicago who kept losing his family says hello!

I was just wondering when u go to any bar how much is bottle of water? Thanks

You be better off bringing case of water on ship. If you are flying to Miami stop in Walgreens or CVS in Miami get luggage tag from porters at port put on case of water with cabin number and check it in with luggage and it will be delivered to your cabin. Water onboard is expensive

We did bring wine on board with us. We brought it in a carry on, knowing we would have to declare it and pay the corkage fee. They took it from the X-ray machine to a nearby table where the nice lady put stickers on each bottle, wrote us a receipt for the charge that would show up on our room bill and told us we were free to start drinking at any time. I do love vacation.

Was the fee $35/bottle?

Thanks!

Day 1 comes to a close. The muster drill was relatively painless, took about 30 minutes from the time we got there to when they dismissed us. After that we took care of some things at guest services, got my answers on the wifi and headed to The District to watch the final four. The kids went to the arcade. We met up with the kids again at 7 for dinner at Taste, which was good. I really liked not having to go back to the cabin to get all dressed up for dinner. Unfortunately my phone spent the evening in the cabin because it died. I'll do better with pictures tomorrow! But the salad with the avocados was amazing, as was the ceviche. And the chocolate lava cake. Yum.

After dinner we played a little putt putt under the ropes course and the kids decided to go swimming again, so back to The District for the adults!

So when TheDougOut said Beau was talented, I just assumed he was a good singer. No. That guy is a great performer. He was so much fun to watch and sing along with! He had the crowd pass around the mic and tell where you were from. Turns out the guy sitting next to me went to my high school and was only one year ahead of me. Go figure.

After giving some of our money to the casino we called it a night around midnight.

I rolled out of bed bright and early today at 9 am. Ok so not so early. I forgot how dark the cabins are with the blinds closed. Leaving the family asleep I quickly got dressed and headed to the pool to claim a couple of chairs. Yes, lots of people had claimed chairs, and yes there were NCL guys putting the stickers on them with the time, but it's a cruise ship and that's going to happen. I got two chairs in the shade so hopefully in a few hours we can move to the sun for a bit. The family is still in bed.

The ship is definitely moving today. It's like this constant little side to side motion. Every now and then the pool looks like a wave pool. Not a big deal, just commenting because there has been a lot of talk on the NCL boards about the movement of this ship.

The family finally woke up and we went to the Garden Cafe for breakfast. Love the omelette station. I think tomorrow I'll get fried eggs. :-). The hazmat team in the GC did not give me the warm fuzzies. They were doing some serious cleaning, masks and all. Looks like someone got seasick at breakfast. That better be all it was!

The wifi is dial-up slow on deck 16 so I'm coming to the Internet cafe to load posts. Ugh. But ok, it's a beautiful day so no complaints!

Some answers...

Million Dollar Quartet is already gone. Moving to the Getaway.

Water is like $3 for a little bottle, $5 for a big one.

Not sure about signing slips without the UBP but I'll keep an eye out.

Corkage fee is $15/bottle.

I think that's all!

Thank you! When we got on the Escape in Feb 2016 they wanted to charge us $35/bottle so we just left it with them until we got off of the cruise. We had the UBP so it made no difference.
