lawgirl86 Posted April 1, 2016 #1 Share Posted April 1, 2016 We noticed that it is just over 2 miles from the port to the Klondike Gold Dredge center. Is this something we could walk to? I can't find any information on it and the map looks like highway part of the way. TIA for your help and any info you can provide.

You might find more here - https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g60877-d536322-Reviews-Klondike_Gold_Dredge_Tours-Skagway_Alaska.html From Google maps, you're right it looks like it's 2 miles away. I don't think that would be such a bad walk if you're up for it. Otherwise, I'm sure you could easily find a taxi or shuttle to get you over there. DougH Posted April 1, 2016 #3 Share Posted April 1, 2016 If this is where I think it is I don't believe it would be a bad walk. Is it just out of town past the Railroad Maintenance yard and the Glass Blowing / Garden center? (also just past the cemetery) It's really not what you would call a highway, there is only one road in and out of town (one lane each direction) Most of the walk is thru the town itself and there are really very few cars driving around. There is a shuttle bus that goes from the ship into/around town, not sure if it goes out that far but you could probably cut the distance at least in half if not more for a couple of bucks
mapleleaves Posted April 1, 2016 #4 Share Posted April 1, 2016 it's an easy walk, no hills. I recommend doing the ranger led walk first at the Yukon Goldrush NP. Gives you a sense of the history of the town and some of the characters buried at the cemetary. The City Bus is another option, especially if it's raining ... it stops fairly close to the Cemetary. $5 for an all day pass. http://www.smart-ak.com/Home_Page.html I notice that the Skagway web site now has their Visitor Guide on-line. Good town map inside. http://www.skagway.com

mapleleaves Posted April 1, 2016 #8 Share Posted April 1, 2016 Sorry .... I saw the C in Center and immediately thought Cemetary. Great help I was ! Is this the place you're thinking of? If so it appears to be a little further than the Cemetary so I'd say closer to 2 1/2 miles. http://www.klondikegoldfields.com/

We are thinking (if it's not raining) of it being a great way to stretch our legs and see the town. 2 1/2 is easy peasy for us. Thank you again for your help. xlxo Posted April 2, 2016 #10 Share Posted April 2, 2016 (edited) If you look at Google Maps/Streetview.... the last 1/2 mile between town and the attraction has no sidewalks. You are walking on the side of a highway. Hate to be walking that section of road in the rain. https://www.google.ca/maps/dir/Klondike+Gold+Dredge,+Klondike+Highway,+Skagway,+AK,+United+States/59.4674433,-135.3006382/@59.4698526,-135.3029512,3a,75y,186.05h,75.68t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sF9O5IQr-t2Cc2zKu8SicXw!2e0!6s%2F%2Fgeo1.ggpht.com%2Fcbk%3Fpanoid%3DF9O5IQr-t2Cc2zKu8SicXw%26output%3Dthumbnail%26cb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile.gps%26thumb%3D2%26w%3D203%26h%3D100%26yaw%3D113.41212%26pitch%3D0!7i13312!8i6656!4m9!4m8!1m5!1m1!1s0x56aaac937734ade1:0x36568a1ae62b72bd!2m2!1d-135.2977627!2d59.4726973!1m0!3e2 Edited April 2, 2016 by xlxo
zqvol Posted April 2, 2016 #11 Share Posted April 2, 2016 No real highway in Skagway like you would find in the lower 48 and the town is pretty much flat so the walk should be pretty easy.
rvorcruise Posted April 3, 2016 #12 Share Posted April 3, 2016 The dredge has their own shuttle bus that cruises around town, and you can call them for pickup.
