Shuttle- Talkeetna from Mt McKinley Lodge?

Help me wrap my head around the shuttle system. Many of the Princess Excursions say you will be on the Shuttle from the lodge to Talkeetna and take it to return to the lodge.

Does Princess allow you to go earlier or stay later and take another shuttle time? If so is there a shuttle pass? Is it necessary to book these shuttles to ensure you get there at a certain time?

Is it best to book via Princess for say Flighseeing tour? or is it better to pay for the shuttle and book privately?

Thank you!

the lodge is an hour's drive from Talkeetna. The lodge website says $10RT for the shuttle.

It has a fixed schedule, ie leaves Talkeetna on the hour, leaves the lodge on the half hour. Or vv. Call them for the 2016 schedule.

Some people choose to disembark the train in Talkeetna rather than continue to the lodge and backtrack; their luggage will go ahead to the room. That gives you a little more time in town. Especially if it's a nice day - you'll want to take advantage of it for flightseeing as tomorrow it could be weathered out.
