FranknBeans Posted April 13, 2016 #1 Share Posted April 13, 2016 According to google maps it states that there are 1) This route has restricted usage or private roads. please see attached link https://www.google.ca/maps/dir/Kahului+Harbor,+Kahului,+HI+96732,+United+States/Iao+Valley+State+Park,+Wailuku,+HI+96793/@20.8917252,-156.5469158,13z/am=t/data=!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x7954d3287a146b97:0x9947ce2881140cf1!2m2!1d-156.4784885!2d20.897263!1m5!1m1!1s0x7954d48c950c4885:0x382e34055f93567c!2m2!1d-156.5446214!2d20.8808631!5i1 Any input would be appreciated from folks that done this recently. Astro Flyer Posted April 13, 2016 #3 Share Posted April 13, 2016 (edited) Looking at the link you provided that is not where the cruise ship terminal is located & not the best route to Iao Valley. If you use "McCabe, Hamilton & Remy Co" located at 130 Ala Nuina Street, Kahului, HI 96732 based on the satellite image that appears to be where the cruise ship terminal is located. The directions state the "restricted usage road" applies to Ala Nui St and Wharf St which are in the port area. The last time we picked up friends from the POA who were visiting us for a day there was not any restrictions on either street. Maybe technically these are not "public" roads but they are open to the public to get to the cruise ship terminal. https://www.google.com/maps/dir/McCabe,+Hamilton+%26+Renny+Co,+Ala+Luina+Street,+Kahului,+HI/Iao+Valley+State+Park,+Wailuku,+HI+96793/@20.8916486,-156.5052278,13z/data=!3m1!1e3!4m8!4m7!1m2!1m1!1s0x7954d2d07d4c5dc7:0x4ff9690cb57d3abc!1m2!1m1!1s0x7954d48c950c4885:0x382e34055f93567c!3e0 Are you driving from the ship to Iao Valley or from an airport rental car agency? It's an easy drive along the route...Kaahumanu Ave becomes Main Street & a slight right onto Iao Valley Rd which it states is "partially restricted". The only restriction could be that it ends at the parking lot but there's nothing else when using the road. There is a $5 per car fee to go to Iao Valley: http://dlnr.hawaii.gov/dsp/parks/maui/iao-valley-state-monument/ Edited April 13, 2016 by Astro Flyer
Astro Flyer Posted April 13, 2016 #4 Share Posted April 13, 2016 (edited) If the Google Maps route is truly restricted in the port area then driving Hobron & turning right on Kaahumanu is an alternate route. Your link & the one I previously posted didn't open the Google Map directions for me but the directions can be viewed by manually adding the starting & ending locations. Silver Sweethearts Posted April 13, 2016 #6 Share Posted April 13, 2016 Thanks all, we will be driving from Ma'alaea (whale watch tour) then driving from there toIoa Valley. Aloha FranknBeans: Astro Flyer has given you good directions from the ship to Iao Valley, which was what it sounded like you needed, but now we are reading you will be going from Ma'alaea to Iao Valley. That is a totally different set of directions. Do you need those directions?
