14ersco Posted April 28, 2016 #1 Share Posted April 28, 2016 We are coming into Heathrow Terminal 5 at 22:00 on a weekday from another EU country and are looking at our best option to get to our hotel near Waterloo station. Looking at the Tube schedule the last train is about 23:30 on Piccadilly, then transfer at Green Park to Jubilee. Would there be enough time to clear customs, pickup luggage, and get to the Tube before the trains stop running for the night? Or would our best (not cheapest) option be to hire a private car? If a private car, any recommendations? Thanks for the help
Globaliser Posted April 28, 2016 #2 Share Posted April 28, 2016 Would there be enough time to clear customs, pickup luggage, and get to the Tube before the trains stop running for the night? You should be fine, so long as your flight doesn't have a substantial delay. If you plan to take the Tube but it all goes pear-shaped on the day, you can still simply go to the taxi rank and get a taxi as a reliable (if not inexpensive) option of last resort. phabric Posted April 28, 2016 #3 Share Posted April 28, 2016 (edited) I used http://www.justairports.com for a private car service from LHR to London hotel 4 times. Edited April 28, 2016 by phabric
Putterdude Posted April 30, 2016 #4 Share Posted April 30, 2016 We used Balkberry Cars in September for a similar trip and were extremely pleased with them. The rate was £40 for an estate car. http://www.blackberrycars.com
14ersco Posted May 5, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted May 5, 2016 (edited) Thanks for everyone's reply. Even though we should be okay time-wise for the Tube we decided after losing a couple hours due to time zones it is best for our first trip out of Heathrow to use a private car. We reserved with Blackberry Cars, because Just Airports claims their cars carry less than Blackberry Cars. For an Estate car Just Airports says it can carry 4 passengers, 2 checked luggage, and 2 hand luggage. For Blackberry Cars they say an Estate car can carry 4 passengers, 3 checked luggage, and 3 hand luggage. So for our family we would have needed to upgrade (more money) to use Just Airports. Putterdude Posted May 6, 2016 #6 Share Posted May 6, 2016 I would think that different estate cars have different capacities, however the one we booked thru Blackerry Cars accommodated the 2 of us, 4 would not have been a problem, 2 very large suitcases, 2 carry on cases, a back back and a folded wheelchair.
