We're leaving Sunday and have not booked any excursions for St Thomas or St Martin. First time there. We need ideas for specific things to do or see. We like a mix of beach, shopping, eating and sightseeing. Any ideas would be appreciated.

We just returned from this same cruise. We used Blue Safaris in St. Maarten for a wonderful Splash 3 island tour. This is the second time we have used them. We have also had friends use them on another occasion. Wonderful family owned company. I would skip emailing and try call Kirstine direct. We saw several sea turtles and the lunch was incredible.

 

In St. Thomas we did the Kayak, hike and snorkel that RC offered...it was good, but St. Maarten was really the day we loved.

The blue safari tour sounds great. I have a bit of a hip issue. Was it hard to get in and out of the boat???

I will be honest and say there may be some difficulties for someone with limited mobility.

 

At two of the stops you are entering 15-20 ft deep water. I would imagine you could easily slide out of the boat, however entering the boat again may be difficult. They use a three rung boat ladder to get you back in (along with assistance from the captain). The ladder only hangs 18-20 inches from the water level. You need to be able to put one foot on the bottom rung and lift yourself out at least belly level to get on the platform. There isn't much on the boat as far as grab handles.

 

The lunch stop they get the boat fairly close to shore, but again being able to lift your body weight to belly level is important.

 

I still encourage you to contact Kirstine. Perhaps they can make necessary accommodations!

St Thomas- Taxi to the ferry port and head over to St Johns for the day. Lots of beach options to go to from there, absolutely beautiful.

 

St Maarten- Always a good time to catch a cab outside the port and head to Maho Beach. Rent a couple chairs and an umbrella right on the beach at Sunset Bar & Grill and watch the planes come in and land right overhead. They have a full bar and restaurant there as well. There are also tours that stop here for a short time, but we like spending the whole day or at least most of it there.
