Daytime Edinburgh Festival

Recommended Posts

We will be in Edinburgh for 2 days in August during the Fringe Festival and Tattoo.

We plan to go to Tattoo the first night and see some of the city that day. The second day we will also spend time in town, are there festival activities during the day or are they only in the evening?

For events at the Festival check out www,eif.co.uk/2016 and for the fringe festival on at the same time http://www.edfringe.com

The Edinburgh Fringe Festival is HUGE with thousands (no exaggerating!) of events happening from early morning till into the early hours. There are shows of all sorts - comedy, drama, musical theatre, dance, music to suit all tastes, story-telling, exhibitions, craft fairs and street entertainment in every corner of the city centre. It does however mean that the city is very busy but really vibrant. Wherever you go you will find something to see or do to fill a day easily. There is a half-price ticket both on Princes Street at The Mound with tickets for that day. Check the edfringe.co.uk website mentioned above. Events at the main Edinburgh Festival tend to focus around more classical entertainment and would probably need to be booked well in advance.

I take it you will de docked at Rosyth? The last train back to Inverkeithing (the nearest railway station) is at 11:19 p.m. so you can spend a long day there. Princess usually has shuttle bus between the station and the port but there are many taxis (around £8 for up to 4 opeople). You can get a bus later to Inverkeithing , although you'd have to get a taxi back from there to the ship. Although the port is called Rosyth, Inverkeithing is closer and has much better transport links.

There is also a Book Festival, Art festival, as well as the other events you know about.

If you'd like any more information, don't hesitate to ask.

We are arriving on Celebrity Silhouette and I think we dock or I should say tender in Newhaven. Thank you for info.

The Fringe is a fabulous time to be in Edinburgh. Your main problem will be in deciding what to see out of all of the options available throughout the day and evening. It really is worth spending some time exploring what's available. It's also useful to have a map handy so that you can work out how to get from one venue to another, and estimate how long it will take.
