It was something I came up with on the fly when I found out Mojito's were not served in Texas waters. Something about Texas Liquor Control and/or that the mint was not grown in Texas and couldn't be served.

Thank you for following!

At Sea-Day 2

0BB25A1B-477C-48B5-AA5C-4BD5AA706E14_zpsmhhvroay.jpg

We started out the day with breakfast in Windjammer. Your typical breakfast food items. No complaints from me, though I will say the Orange Juice reminds me of Sunny Delight. After breakfast we made a hard right into Giovani's Table to reserve a table for lunch at noon, and then made our way down to the Royal Promenade to stop by Next Cruise for some literature. Literature turned into an open appointment, an open appointment turned into a sailing on the Adventure out of San Juan next May.... When in Rome, right? The onboard BOGO 60 is hard to pass up, the onboard credits for the next cruise were just the cherry on the top!

We celebrated our next adventure with a couple of drinks. The long awaited Mojito and a Strawberry Daiquiri.

A view of one of the sculptures from the Promenade. It was pretty deserted with everyone up on the pool deck.

By the time we had wandered a bit more, it was time to head off to lunch.

Lunch-Giovani's Table

We were greeted by Alex, the manager of Giovani's and led to our table for two, which was a window seat near the back of the restaurant.

Alex explained how the menu worked, made recommendations and left us to decide. The recommendations were helpful as neither of us had been to a Giovani's.

For starters we had the Cheese and Cured Meat Plate, and the Minestrone. The meat plate was one of Alex's recommendations, both were excellent.

For the main course we had the pollo arrosoto and a seafood linguine, and the Polpettone and 4 cheese ravioli's which was a daily special. Both were delicious and cooked very well. Great recommendations again Alex.

For desert we had the Tiramisu and the Torta all 'olio. Both again were very good.

Overall experience here was simply great, Alex and his staff are running an amazing restaurant. We both agreed that this was potentially the best overall meal we had experienced cruising. I would definitely return to Giovani's again, and would encourage others to do the same.

After lunch we managed to crawl to a pool bar for a round of drinks, and nearly opted for an assist back to the room where we relaxed on the balcony for a few hours. I noticed mid afternoon that the temperature had risen about 5 degrees or so...ah yes we're shedding that Texas weather!

Honestly the afternoon must have slipped away from me during my nap, as next thing I know I'm being told dinner is in 30 minutes and it's the first formal night! Yikes... Nothing like rushing into a monkey suit.

Tonight's menu.

We both opted for the Bay Scallop Gratin as our starter. It's really a great starter, it may not look all that appetizing, but I would recommend it.

For main courses we went with the Salmon and Shrimp Ravioli. The Ravioli was very good. The Salmon, I would rate as passable but would not try again.

For desert we went with chocolate sensation and double strawberry cheesecake. Both were divine. We were also sung a happy anniversary song by Josefine and the dining room management. Surprise! Nothing makes either of us turn bright red like being sung to in front of a packed dinning room!

After dinner we promptly dove back to the room to change out of the monkey suit and dress into pool attire, we wanted to take advantage of the late dinning service being at formal night. The pool area was deserted. Grabbed a mojito and pina colada and hit the hot tub.

They were also showing The Intern on the big screen tonight. Stuck around for most of the movie and a round of strawberry daiquiris then headed back to the room to change and head to the platinum for the late night comedy show. Max Dolcelli was the comedian for Adult Comedy. This guy was hilarious, would definitely see him again, but as advertised, it is very much so adult humor. Also had a mojito and bud light in the theater.

Then heeded back to the room and cracked open the bottle of wine we had brought from home (Sweet Cheeks Riesling) and enjoyed a glass on the balcony before turning in for bed.

Stay tuned...Tomorrow, another sea day!

It was something I came up with on the fly when I found out Mojito's were not served in Texas waters. Something about Texas Liquor Control.

Texas Liquor Laws in a nutshell:

If you serve it in Texas, you have to buy it from a distributor in Texas so they can collect the tax.

So the cruise lines have a limited menu in Galveston and open up the full bar after they hit international waters.

TL;DR: the TABC sucks the joy out of all that is good.

TABC rules out of Galveston make it difficult, but somehow we always find something to tide us over until we hit that magical mark a few hours later. :D Still following along....:)

Creativity amongst alcoholic beverages hasn't failed me yet....Okay so maybe once it did....

Apologies for the delay in getting the next chapter up... Work apparently didn't get the memo that I had a cruise review going! :D

At Sea-Day 3

e833a6aa-9478-4a0d-8a3e-d7aa791455f8_zpshxlciq5u.jpg

Our 2nd sea day started out pretty similar to the first. A pretty typical Windjammer breakfast. Bacon, eggs, pancakes, your usual windjammer meal.

We took a lap around the pool deck to scope out the prospects of getting a couple decent loungers. The deck wasn't too crowded yet, so we headed back to the room to change and grab our pool gear for the day. Everyone on the ship must have had the same idea, as upon return to the pool deck the not crowded turned into a zoo. After a lap around the deck again, we found the best we were going to get. 2 loungers front row to the kids pool. No big deal to us, is what it is on a crowded day!

The bar runner let us know that the drink of the day was a Blended Mojito for the economical price of $8. I knew then that the day could get a little dangerous!;)

b237cd85-7590-4123-9c77-9c3e7920b3bf_zpsjo9pqbmh.jpg

After a couple rotations into the pool to cool off, and soaking up the sun. We decided to run into the Windjammer again to grab lunch, and come back out to eat. I never want to be that guy that leaves for a couple hours while leaving their gear on the loungers, especially on a crowded sea day... So we brought our hamburgers and hot dogs back out on deck, enjoyed another round of blended mojitos and enjoyed the company of our lounger neighbors who had booked a cruise while onboard as well.

This is about when we lost track of the time, and more importantly the afternoon sun screen applications. Later that evening we checked out our pictures taken from the day, at 2 PM our picture was taken and neither of us were red. By 3 PM we were both rock lobsters!

Back to the room to lick our wounds, lotion up with aloe lotion, and hope it's not as bad as what it appears!...It's pretty bad!

Dinner-Main Dinning Room

Menu for this evening.

26BABAB7-DED6-49F3-BCEA-48732488C387_zpskfvqgiap.jpg

Starters- We had the Caesar Salad again, and the Honeydew Melon Soup.

Main course- We both decided to go with the Chicken Courde on Blueu, it was the best main dinning room meal we'd had so far on this cruise. Cooked perfectly, I would eat this meal every night if that were an option.

0F2D54B2-D5EC-494D-AF7D-4441EABDF339_zpsicy4dwhc.jpg

Desert- We both had rum cake with ice cream, taste was good but odd texture on this rum cake. Not sure I'd get this again.

Overall it was a great meal besides the desert. I definitely wouldn't skip main dinning room night if this menu was up again!

After dinner we headed down to the photo kiosks to check out our pictures from the last few days. Not a bad idea to check your first formal night picture if you do want to buy it, just in case you need to go back for more during the second formal night. We were pleased with ours, and decided to move on to the casino to donate a few bucks to the ship.

Donation complete, we moved on to the Royal Promenade Cafe for a couple of iced coffee's while we walked around the ship.

Snapped a quick picture of the cow room, I hear Ben & Jerry's vouchers come with the room. Mmmm ice cream. :D

The evening movie from the upper lounger deck.

After another lap around the ship, we headed back to the room to relax on the balcony with a couple glasses of Riesling.

Reflecting on the day and the sunburns, we decided even a bad day on vacation is a great day in comparison to the alternatives. We weren't going to let the sunburns get us down, and we were looking forward to our upcoming day on shore.

Stay tuned... Tomorrow we visit Roatan, Honduras.
