featherw8 Posted June 23, 2016 #3 Share Posted June 23, 2016 I'm curious how the boarding process in Pireaus went considering the port workers strike. Did it take longer? Did you have to bring your own bags on board?
bluwes Posted June 23, 2016 #4 Share Posted June 23, 2016 Same question as featherw8. Interested in how the embarkation process went. Also what time did you arrive at the port, and how long to get on the ship. Sorry , another question what time was the muster drill as our roll call want to meet up around 4pm. I know we don't sail until 7pm, but didn't want to interfere with dinner service. Thanks in anticipation, and have a great cruise !
cavcmy Posted June 23, 2016 #5 Share Posted June 23, 2016 Hi, azmaui - hope you are having fun and thanks for your gracious offer to answer questions! If you stop/exit on Deck 9 Midship elevators and face opposite of the stairs, is there a door between sideways cabins 9342 and 9341? If so, what is door labeled? I will be directly below that door in October and am concerned what's above me (noise etc). Thanks again for doing this! Carley
seabeelarry Posted June 23, 2016 #6 Share Posted June 23, 2016 Sorry to hijack your post 😜 But, we are also in board now. OUR experiance in Athens was pretty much painless, and I saw no "strike" issues as there were baggage porters all over. We had 2 rush our cab to get our 4 bags. Being Plat, we did notice that the priority checkin was not like in the states...no real priority check in at all really. A travel friend, on her 1st cruise, blue, went to the "normal" checkin, and actually was in the passport check line before our "priority" line got us there. Not a big for us, as we jumped line and got in with her, but I heard a ton of others complaining about the priority non-exsistance. The passport check line was chaotic, as 6 lines funneled to 2 agents, but again, not too awful bad. We arrived at the docks about 11:30ish, and was on Lido eating a Guys burger by 12:30ish. azmaui Posted June 23, 2016 Author #7 Share Posted June 23, 2016 Hi, we got email from carnival not to arrive before 1pm. They suggested arrival 1-6pm. We arrived around 2pm and it was packed. We had a choice to check in or carry luggage. I carried mine, my parents checked in theirs. It was very hot and crowded and it took us half hour to get through to check in line. Then they gave us number to wait for embarkation. By that time my mom who has heart condition was not feeling well and almost fainted. I talked to carnival rep and they brought her wheel chair and took us through all the lines forward. (After a line to check in there was another line to get to security building. Then another line to get through security. And one more to go through passport control!) It took us an hour being escorted through and skipping the lines to get to the line that takes you aboard... I have no idea how long it took for people who arrived around the same time and waited but I would think at least 2-3 hours.

azmaui Posted June 23, 2016 Author #9 Share Posted June 23, 2016 I will check about cabins on deck 9, that's where we are staying in family balcony. Sorry not staying on family harbor deck. Love the deck 9 mid ship location and noise from lido is non existent.

I'm glad to read that the impact of the strike is minimal to nonexistent, but wow, this sounds like a very different experience than seabeelarry who also embarked on this cruise (this thread, post #6 above). He arrived earlier than you did, so I have to think that your assigned 1-6PM arrival time didn't help. It sounds disorganized.

lizardhowson Posted June 24, 2016 #15 Share Posted June 24, 2016 (edited) I'm on the cruise after yours. What movies are playing onboard (IMAX)? Is the onboard ATM dispensing Euros or Dollars? The ship uses US dollars. Guest services does not provide currency exchange. John Heald has already stated there are two ATMs aboard, one dispenses US dollars, one dispenses Euros. flybarry Posted June 24, 2016 #17 Share Posted June 24, 2016 First off, thank you for taking the time to answer questions about Vista and your cruise. I was curious if you have been to the library bar, and if so, what wines are they self-serving by the glass. I saw an earlier post from the inaugural cruise and the wines looked to be quite good. Springdale Posted June 25, 2016 #18 Share Posted June 25, 2016 We were on the 5/24 Athens to Barcelona cruise, and had 2 formal nights - one was on our only sea day, and the other was on the Livorno/Florence evening. In the Horizons dining room, there was a mix of attire on both nights (cruise elegant and cruise casual).
brightfeather Posted June 25, 2016 #19 Share Posted June 25, 2016 I'm hopeful someone will post the dailies from the Athens to Barcelona itinerary. Please!? :-) I don't know about anyone else, but it truly helps plan the days around excursions and for sea days. Anyone? Thank you in advance.:D
azmaui Posted June 27, 2016 Author #20 Share Posted June 27, 2016 I will be posting more details once we are back home. Yes we had first formal night on the sea day. Have been using camp ocean every day, kids usually go there in the evening (I take them to dinner on Lido or bring them food to the room). They also have an option to take kids to dinner at 6pm which my kids did yesterday and liked it. Couple of days they stayed for a few hours during the day when I went ashore and only my parents were close by and had a blast. They don't want to leave the ship now and prefer to stay in club and play! I'm very impressed. Having sailed on Disney before I didn't expect such a great kids club and kids loving it that much! No idea if it will affect noise in your cabin. FYI I've stayed in cabin 9363 right under lido deck and never heard any noise from there! But I could hear neighbor's tv.
