Ecuador Posted July 4, 2016 #1 Share Posted July 4, 2016 Has anyone used the train to travel from Livorno to Lucca?
wheezedr Posted July 4, 2016 #2 Share Posted July 4, 2016 Yes, 3 weeks ago and it was simple. Just like was pointed out in your question regarding Livorno to Florence, you need to get to the train station and then simply buy a ticket to Lucca. You board the train to Pisa centralie and in Pisa you change to the train to Lucca . Simple trip and shorter than the train ride to Florence. Lucca is a fully walled city, a delight to visit and walk in, nice shopping area, churches , some towers etc. Should you wish to visit Pisa and the tower you can do it at no extra cost by getting off the train, visiting the field of miracles and taking a subsequent train back to Livorno. You change trains no matter what. There are also buses but I have not used them. Actually an easy and inexpensive day trip. We did it because we had spent a week + in Florence and Tuscany not long ago. While I live Florence the long day from Livorno did not excite me. Ecuador Posted July 5, 2016 Author #3 Share Posted July 5, 2016 wheezedr Thanks for the info. Did Pisa last time so looking to do something different this time.Considered taking bus from shuttle drop off point to station and then train to Lucca but taxito train station may be better option due to time limits. Which option did you use?
Rare Hlitner Posted July 5, 2016 #4 Share Posted July 5, 2016 We have also used the train to Lucca with no problems. Just be aware that the local train that runs between Pisa Centrale (where you must change trains) and Lucca will often leave from an auxiliary track location that is pretty far down the platform. So if you do not quickly spot that train, ask for somebody at the station to point you in the right direction :). Otherwise, it is an easy trip and you will spot the walls of Lucca as soon as you exit the Lucca train station. Also be aware that you will do quite a lot of walking, so where comfy shoes. Which option did you use? Took the ships RT shuttle to downtown Livorno, bus #1 to the train station and then the train . Reversed it on the way back. We skipped Pisa as we have been there before but there would have been plenty of time to stop if one wanted to.
