Watching Olympics on RCL

Recommended Posts

So, I'm a huge Olympics dork and really enjoy watching the Opening Ceremony, during which I will be on a Royal cruise. Has anybody sailed during the Olympics before, and if so, do they carry the Opening Ceremonies on one of the large, behind the stack screens? Or in one of the bars? Or will I be relegated to watching it in my cabin?

Thanks!

The cabin TV'S do not carry ABC' CBS or NBC. The Olympics are on NBC. To be safe, I'd DVR it. :)

Well, that's an incredible bummer. I was really hoping to watch the Olympics.

Also, I don't have a DVR. I guess I'll have to hope it's on YouTube or Hulu later.

Although RCI does not carry NBC on their TV lineup, The Kentucky Derby (An NBC exclusive) was shown on the Allure back in May when we were on board. The NBC feed was simulcast on one of the ESPN Caribbean channels...My guess is that they would probably do the same for the opening ceremonies.

Agree. They show big NFL games on the big pool screens so would assume the Olympics will be shown. On our last cruise on the liberty, one of our favorite things was watching movies at night on the pool deck. Enjoy.

I wouldn't assume -- I was on the Enchantment and hoping for the same for the NBA finals. I had seen the NBA finals on a big venue (I think it was at the skating rink) on the Oasis 4 years back. Several crew members assumed it would be shown on the big screen, but we finally found someone in the know -- they hadn't paid for the rights to show the game like that. The only tv's in public were at the bar at the casino -- which was quite smokey. (It was on ESPN in the rooms though.)

I suspect they made a decision about paying for rights based on the demographics of the cruise. Personally, anything Olympics I am up for watching. Maybe if you ask in advance, they will get the message that someone cares about it and make sure to get the rights?

Once again it is time that RCCL take a look at their in room TV programming offerings to passengers.

TV programming is so far down the list of things I'd like to see a cruise line address. I'm happy with the channel that shows the cruise director's show and navigational info from the bridge. That is all I need.

If I want to watch TV I'll save my thousands of dollars and watch it home

Really, I'm just looking to watch the Opening Ceremony, and also have it as an option at night. I don't plan on spending all my time watching the Olympics, but my girlfriend and I don't gamble, we aren't dance club people; so being able to watch the Olympics at night would be a nice option up on deck, in our room, in a public area without smoking, et cetera.

I get that... But there are many people here griping about RCI TV programming.. I don't cruise for their TV channels.
