How was Jewel October 12 Cruise??

Recommended Posts

I'll be writing a review over the next week.

We had 30 ft. swells on Thursday Oct. 13, quite a ride :p

We went to the Pursers Desk 8:00 a.m., ate the green apple they gave us, took the dramamine, slept for a few hours. Woke up around 11:30 a.m. starving, went to the Windjammer, it was the best meal I ever had there.

We got our food, sat down, ate. I think there were maybe 25 people there.

The rest of the trip was beautiful, sunny and hot :D

Wow, we were wondering. When we disembarked on the 12th Boston was very blustery and stormy. We stayed one post night at the Long Wharf Marriott. We borrowed a couple of their big umbrellas and while wlking to McCormick and Schmick's mine literally blew out. The next AM many flights were delayed and cancelled at Logan, but ours was on time. Glad you had a good trip otherwise. We had a ride like that to Bermuda once on the Celebrity Merdian, also in October. It was our first cruise, and we were hooked. I am happy to hear your weather improved. Nancy

Mrssully

Just wondered if you ever docked in Bermuda on the 14th, if so what time was it? I would think with the seas being so rough you wouldn't even have made it into Kings Wharf and would have just went straight to the Eastern Caribbean and maybe hit Bermuda on the way home.

We were on this cruise . We were told that the swells were 40 ft to 45 ft. It sure felt like it. Otherwise the cruise was smooth. It was a wonderful experience. As for Bermuda, we docked around 12 o'clock and could not get off until around 1:30. I had to remember what had been said about not getting there until afternoon. As we were comming to the island there was another ship comming out of port. It did not effect us at all but I'm sure there were people that were disappointed. All in all I couldnt say enough for this cruise. Especially getting to Boston and not having to fly home.

Wow that is really late, now did you leave that same afternoon or late the next day. That was kind of misleading itinerary by RCCL wasn't it, I thought you guys were suppose to dock at 8am on the 14th. I wish Royal Caribbean would stick better to the original Itinerary when they post it aless weather was a factor, then I can understand it. But in your case sure looks like a another ship was docked in Kings Wharf and that is why you couldn't go in and dock on time.

You almost lost 6 hours on your already short stay in Bermuda. That sucks!

We looked at this way - we arrived safe and sound after 30-45 ft seas and that is all we were concerned about. We did get our overnight stay and we even left a half hour later than scheduled due to 3 passengers being late back to the ship. :)

Thats so funny on our September 22nd sailing when we arrived from Boston to Bermuda we didn't dock because the Captain said the port was closed due to heavy seas... and we had no waves anything like 30 to 45 ft. on the way down to Bermuda. Find it strange you docked and we didn't, we did catch Bermuda on the way back home but for only 1 day, we lost a whole day in Bermuda on our sailing.

Whole thing sounds fishy.

We too were on this cruise. My wife was sick in bed (as was a good portion of the ship) but my daughter and I were fine. Even if you weren't sick it was quite an ordeal getting from place to place on the ship. You were either holding on to something or moving from wall to wall.

Same thing with entertainer Marty Allen. What a trooper! Him and his wife, Kate Blackwell, did not hesitate to do their scheduled show. They were moving around the stage pretty good but they are old school and wouldn't have had it any other way. What a treat to see them!

The only negative about the trip was that 'Sea Legs' didn't win the Owners Race!

Holy cr*p. I have to know, exactly what do 30-40 feet seas feel like? We had 8-10 feet on our cruise one night and it was a bit uncomfortable. Are loose items getting tossed around at that point? Is it more of a constant up and down and rocking or do you feel the ship slam down? Sorry for such a technical question, but I must say I'm quite curious.

No slamming down really. More of a constant rocking with some 'rocks' worse than others. It was indeed quite an experience. I can say that as i didn't get sick.

Things were flying around the Windjammer, people constantly about to lose their footing while carrying a tray of food. I saw one elderly gentleman totally lose a bowl of soup. Bless his heart, he tried to keep his balance but in the end it was him or the soup. He opted to grab a chair and the soup went flying!

Mrssully, my daughter and I took turns blowing up the palm tree. We actually left it on the balcony of 1530 when we left. I had no more room in my luggage (after that stop in PR, you know what I mean).

I hope that our cabin steward, 'Ninko' left it for the next folks!

We are suffering post cruise withdrawal here in Maine. The Jewel was absolutely incredible. Thursday didn't bother hubby or myself, our 12 year old was a little green and skipped formal night dinner after getting all dressed. Going to the captain's party on the aft did her in. She went back and slept, was fine by next morning.

I have pictures from our balcony and will get them posted. I recall once the readings on tv were 38 ft swells ans 81 mile an hour winds. Guess if we made it through we will never get seasick.

The ship is absolutely beautiful - Bermuda was wonderful - Labadee my personal favorite, loved St. Maarten, loved the entire cruise.

Met some really wonderful people! The only down side - the casino was the quietiest one I have ever seen - we actually opted to find other things to do which is unusual for us.

Review to follow this weekend.
