awesome grandma Posted July 7, 2016 #1 Share Posted July 7, 2016 We will be renting a car post-cruise for 6 hours before our flight home. Plan to visit a beach and eat a nice lunch before going to the airport late afternoon. Does anyone know if there are tolls around the Ft Lauderdale area and by the airport that would make purchasing the Sunpass option through the car rental company necessary? If so, can we just pay cash at the tollbooth or is it only electronic tolls? There are 6 of us and it is cheaper for us to rent a car for the day. HUNKY Posted July 7, 2016 #2 Share Posted July 7, 2016 Sunpass is not necessary it is easy to avoid any and all tollroads.
royalcruz Posted July 8, 2016 #3 Share Posted July 8, 2016 I live in Fort Lauderdale and have a Sunpass and only use it about once a year when going on road trips! :)
dread_pirate Posted July 8, 2016 #4 Share Posted July 8, 2016 To hijack a bit, will we need SunPass to go from FLL to the Port of Miami?
Hydrokitty Posted July 8, 2016 #5 Share Posted July 8, 2016 To hijack a bit, will we need SunPass to go from FLL to the Port of Miami? Even if you do, it will be cheaper to pay the toll than have the car rental add it to your bill....most of the car rentals in NY include the "easy pass" and it will be in the glove box. You have to tell them you do not want it and ask that it be removed from the vehicle because otherwise even if you don't want it the toll scanner will read the pass in your glove box and you will be charged the toll and of course the "service charge" for using it. Don't know if FL does the same thing, but make sure you ask....especially if you don't want it.
dread_pirate Posted July 8, 2016 #6 Share Posted July 8, 2016 So not all the tolls between Ft. Lauderdale and Miami are cashless? Good to know. Thanks.
Rare crewsweeper Posted July 8, 2016 #7 Share Posted July 8, 2016 No need for a SunPass or a transponder between FLL and Port of Miami. It's straight down I-95 to I-395 E and through the tunnel. Just avoid the express lane.
