Formal night on independence of the seas

First time cruising with rc what do most people tend to wear to formal night please?? Also if we decided not to join in with formal night does that restrict what you do those nights?? Husband and I have cruised when THOMSON previously and felt excluded from formal night as different bits of the ship were blocked off etc. We aren't the type of people who genuine ally dress up for dinner , although I do like to make more effort on holiday but also be comfy and am more of a trouser and top kinda girl X

There are no parts of the ship blocked off for those not in formal dress. Also, dress suggestions are not enforced, so you can wear whatever you please.

A top and pants would be ok. Beware though, no shorts allowed in the dining room for men. We turned up one night and the men in our group had tailored shorts and they were refused entry. Yet a lady turned up with extremely short shorts and nothing was said!!

I don't doubt that you have experienced guests in shorts being turned away but I suggest that is the exception rather than the rule. We are seeing shorts worn to dinner more frequently and find it perfectly acceptable. I wish Royal would change the suggested dress so I would feel comfortable wearing my shorts too! I'm sure they will...just a matter of time.
