Rare Lobbylin Posted July 10, 2016 #1 Share Posted July 10, 2016 Are the beds in all sheltered balcony cabins on QM2 Deck 6 nearest the bathroom? I am booked in 6081 and happened to see a YouTube video of cabin 6216 where the bed was near the balcony and the desk near the bathroom. Just curious if there is an easy way to tell from the balcony door position on the deck plans what type of position the bed is in the cabin? https://uk.video.search.yahoo.com/video/play;_ylt=A2KLqIhRNIJXSyYAbEf23olQ;_ylu=X3oDMTByYXI3cnIwBHNlYwNzcgRzbGsDdmlkBHZ0aWQDBGdwb3MDNA--?p=qm2+sheltered+balcony&vid=7b12ff9dda45b40b88adf2dba41d4f18&turl=https%3A%2F%2Ftse1.mm.bing.net%2Fth%3Fid%3DOVP.Ve67fc4a34f36ae5b44213db74d57e2dd%26pid%3D15.1%26h%3D168%26w%3D300%26c%3D7%26rs%3D1&rurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DVTxuFvncvfM&tit=Queen+Mary+II+Balcony+Cabin+Deck+6&c=3&h=168&w=300&l=59&sigr=11bq9794u&sigt=1128tafk6&sigi=132fevov4&age=1387143128&fr2=p%3As%2Cv%3Av&fr=yfp-hrtab-903&tt=b
Underwatr Posted July 10, 2016 #2 Share Posted July 10, 2016 That's the first time I've seen that layout in a sheltered balcony stateroom. Normally we book on Deck 5 though.
jburton59 Posted July 10, 2016 #3 Share Posted July 10, 2016 If you look closely at the video of the bathroom, you'll see a grab bar in the shower. It's a handicapped room and the bed has to be near the window because a wheelchair wouldn't be able to go around the bed to get to the desk or couch. pepperrn Posted July 10, 2016 #4 Share Posted July 10, 2016 That's a very odd cabin... never seen one like it (and I've had sheltered balcony cabins on decks 4, 5 and 6). The shower area has something attached to the wall (seat?). The desk and lamp above are similar to an inside cabin (which has a single lamp as shown here, normally in balcony cabins there are two lamps above the desk). The wardrobe is usually slightly larger and with a rounded end, in a balcony cabin. This one is shorter and straight ended (again, almost like an inside cabin) Most odd  As, when laying in bed (or seated) in a Sheltered Balcony Cabin, you can't see the sea, I wouldn't let it worry me greatly either way. However, if I had to choose. I would slightly prefer the sofa near the balcony as it makes a better "living area" with the balcony door open, sofa just inside, and the chairs outside. I am puzzled...

However, the bathroom looks to be a normal one (except for the fold-down seat in the shower (if that is what it is)) and would therefore have a step up into it?, and another into the shower? Furthermore, 6216 is not marked on the current deckplans as an accessible cabin, I believe? Still puzzled... Edited July 10, 2016 by pepperrn
Rare Lobbylin Posted July 10, 2016 Author #6 Share Posted July 10, 2016 (edited) It's bizarre isn't it? But judging by all your replies this is not normal, so I think I can rest knowing the table is normally near the balcony. Maybe they kitted it out specially for someone temporarily.... Who knows! Thanks Linda Edited July 10, 2016 by Lobbylin
jburton59 Posted July 10, 2016 #7 Share Posted July 10, 2016 I just checked the deck plan as well and noticed the room isn't currently a handicapped room. The video looks old and I wonder if this was some kind of earlier version of a "semi-handicapped" room? It really wouldn't be large enough for a regular wheel chair. Host Hattie Posted July 10, 2016 #8 Share Posted July 10, 2016 How odd, please let us know how your cabin tums out.
Underwatr Posted July 10, 2016 #9 Share Posted July 10, 2016 The TV is a flat panel and the carpeting is dark so that would place it after 2011 or 2012, I think.
