Hawaiidan Posted August 22, 2016 #51 Share Posted August 22, 2016 Gosh what did we do before the ships had internet service  We all enjoyed life, we did not think we needed to be in touch with everything in the world the second it happened. We wrote letters and post cards. We took pictures and showed them after we go home. We didnt believe we had to be in communication with everyone in the world ever second of the day 24/7/365/ And we all did just fine.... The fact of the matter is plain and simple....the cell phones and smart things we , or many worship today were developed by companies, not because there was this pressing need , but because they ( the tech companies ) could do it.. They sold the public that they had to have this magic... and the public bought into it. They created a mythical need that really didnt exist and people bought into it like the emperors new clothes saga Just like bottled water...people were made to fear drinking any water that was not special... and gladly pay huge sums for some filtered tap water with a fancy label. Maybe special canned air will be available soon
potterhill Posted September 1, 2016 #52 Share Posted September 1, 2016 Oceania had oceania@sea addresses for everyone and posted names of people who had incoming messages outside the computer centre. Worked a charm. You paid by the email to respond. Then they cancelled it and charged by the minute. Took 10 mins to load so was pretty pricey. Now it's a free for all that's over capacity and still tales 10 mins to load, but no one cares. Those of us who are insomniacs just wait till everyone goes to bed. ;-) Mo
