JHCruiser123 Posted July 16, 2016 #1 Share Posted July 16, 2016 We are a group of 8 that are going on a whale watching tour from 12:30-4:30. The tour is taking up the middle of the day (we dock at 9:00 am) but we'd like to see the Glacier, the visitors Center and walk to Nugget Falls. The shuttles, in addition to being expensive for a group of 8, also seem to end around 5 pm. Is it feasible to catch a taxi (or 2 since there is 8 of us) to/from Mendenhall? Are taxis readily available or do we need to call in advance and schedule one to pick us up at the tour dock and then at the glacier later? Moving around a group of 8 has been a challenge. Budget Queen Posted July 16, 2016 #2 Share Posted July 16, 2016 (edited) I'd first suggest you change your whale watch. Does the whale watch offer pick up/drop off at Mendenhall? Did you inquire about this with your booking? Yes you can use 2 cabs but a better and more efficient use of time is to go direct between your whale watch and Mendenhall. It's a waste of time to go back downtown Figure $160 round trip for 2 cabs downtown Juneau. $5pp visitor center fee. Less with a Mendenhall/Auke Bay Edited July 16, 2016 by Budget Queen
mapleleaves Posted July 16, 2016 #3 Share Posted July 16, 2016 if you need a large cab for one way or return, I believe this company can accommodate 8 pax. Esp for the trip to the pier, call at least 30-40 minutes in advance. http://www.glaciertaxiandtours.com/en/juneautaxiservices
