flcraigs5 Posted July 25, 2016 #1 Share Posted July 25, 2016 Has anyone recently taken the train to Miami for a cruise. We would be headed down the day before so we don't have to worry about delays. Couple of questions I have are: 1. Is the area around the Miami train station safe? 2. Are there usually taxis waiting there when the train comes in? 3. How much would a taxi run if you were going to a hotel right next to the airport? Thanks for any information :)
fishywood Posted July 25, 2016 #2 Share Posted July 25, 2016 (edited) 1. No! 2. Yes 3. "right next to the airport" is a huge area; distance from the Amtrak station on 79th St depends on whether your hotel is on the north, south or west side of MIA. Could be anywhere from $35 to $55. You are doubling your commuting time (and budget) by having to travel from the Amtrak station to the airport area, and then the airport to the port the next morning. Consider staying at a downtown Miami hotel. But if you are dead set at staying near the airport, you can change trains from Amtrak to Tri-Rail (assuming you can handle all your luggage yourself) which will take you to the MIA transportation center. raindropsalways Posted July 25, 2016 #3 Share Posted July 25, 2016 I believe that train arrives around 6:00 p.m. We arrived in mid October and had adequate time to get to the metro station (couple blocks) before dark. Took the metro into town and transferred to the metro mover to within walking distance of our hotel. However, there is an easier way. Since you want to go to the airport (MIA), I'd suggest that you take Amtrak to Fort Lauderdale Station (not FLL/Hollywod) and transfer to Tri-Rail. Tri-Rail will take you directly to MIA Station. If your hotel offers a shuttle, just go into the airport and call. Have a wonderful trip. Betty
