lovelife64 Posted July 30, 2016 #1 Share Posted July 30, 2016 Greetings We are traveling with Costa NeoRomantica to the Fjords - 16/8 Do you think we should book the tours from the ship in advance or can we wait and book on the ship? Most tours are view tours and therefore the weather it is important. They are also expensive tours and you can not cancel if the weather is bad. We would prefer to wait but - Is it possible that there will be no room for these tours? thanks for your answers
tenpin Posted July 30, 2016 #2 Share Posted July 30, 2016 Hi, Nice ship the Romantica; All of Costa's tours for English speakers are subject to cancelation due to lack of up-take by English speaking guests. Normally you might be teamed up with French/German/Dutch sometimes all three which makes the tours to long winded to enjoy. However that said you will be given the option to join one of those or cancel. Our four were cancelled on her & we were given three tours totally unsuitable for me with my limited walking ability. Saying that because it is Norway tours are the best way forward for seeing the Countryside, & even worth the cost. Lots of ports in Norway are walkable from the ship, Flam being one you could do on your own, although very crowded at that time of year with long waits for Trams/Trains/Bus, Bergan/ Olden use shuttle bus from ship. This is one of the great cruises & honestly worth spending that bit extra to see a little more of Norway. As for the weather we have been four times & never had any problems with rain usually nice a sunny although you may need coats, if going up to the Glaciers. Have fun & enjoy. lisah168 Posted July 30, 2016 #3 Share Posted July 30, 2016 If Costa cancels tours due to not enough participation, when will they notify those who book the tour?
Salve Posted July 30, 2016 #4 Share Posted July 30, 2016 If Costa cancels tours due to not enough participation, when will they notify those who book the tour? In the past we had English speaking tours that were canceled. We were not notified that we could book with another language. Now when we are on Costa we always book with another language. French or Italian. They have never been canceled and the tour guide always speaks English so sit near the front of the bus and they will answer some questions for you if possible. tenpin Posted July 31, 2016 #5 Share Posted July 31, 2016 If Costa cancels tours due to not enough participation, when will they notify those who book the tour? Although they do notify you usually the day before, sometimes it is to late at night so you get little chance of booking something else. If this is the case then providing it is not a early tour, go to the meeting place speak to host and ask if their are any places on suitable tours. However that is rare, they do offer you the tour with other languages or an alternative tour and in many cases ask you to contact them. Now the best why of dealing with this is to keep in touch with the English speaking host, who can contact them out of hours & also arrange your choice with them so you don't lose out. After 23 years cruising with them we have always been offered a alternative or the choice to cancel, except for one time. Bearing in mind there are very few English speakers on board (not counting the crew) it is worth considering joining any group as most guides do speak a little English, or like us you can understand the sights without a commentary. Specially in Norway which speaks for itself.
