dltaeg Posted August 3, 2016 #1 Share Posted August 3, 2016 Hi all. I was looking at the RC excursions for our stop in Plama De Mallorca and we would love to spend the day at Palma beach. I've looked on google maps and it appears to only be 20mins or so away from the port. As a family of 6 the RC excursion will set us back £140 which seems a lot for a short drive away. Would we be better making our own way? And does anyone know if its an easy trip to make on your own? Thanks :)

bogofman Posted August 3, 2016 #3 Share Posted August 3, 2016 The buses in Palm are very good, Google search for the route map , the bus stop is just outside the gate We caught the bus to the Soller railway station and caught the vintage train to Soller and then the tram down to the port. Great day out, however the kids will, be happier on the beach:)
KiwiGal117 Posted August 4, 2016 #4 Share Posted August 4, 2016 We are planning on taking a bus or a taxi - RC excursion price is too much for the effort involved. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Pipo Posted August 4, 2016 #5 Share Posted August 4, 2016 I'm an "anti-cruise excursion" guy. Mallorca's public transportation is vast and reliable, I did it and everything went fine. I found locals very friendly and helpful with tourists, don't hesitate to ask them. I recommend visiting these sites, they are helpful: https://www.seemallorca.com/buses http://www.tib.org/portal/en/web/ctm/inici http://www.emtpalma.es/EMTPalma/Front/listadolineas.en.svr
gagirl7143 Posted August 4, 2016 #6 Share Posted August 4, 2016 We have taken the bus and taxi ti Palmanova which is the beach area. The bus just outside the terminal does not go to the beach. You have to walk to the top of the hill and is difficult to determine which bus. My suggestion is to take 2 cabs for your group unless 2 are small children. Cabs are much easier and way less expensive than the Rccl tours. Don't waste time with busses, enjoy a long day at beach and use the cab.

This spring we took a cab and it worked beautifully. We have done both bus and cab at different times and by far we recommend the cab.
gillyd42 Posted August 4, 2016 #8 Share Posted August 4, 2016 (edited) Best beach got to palma nova - only 15 mins away - there is also a great Mini/crazy golf course, 3 x 18 holes, which is great fun and has a bit of shade - only one street off the promenade. Take a taxi, plenty around cost approx 20 Euro or number 104 bus from the porto Pi shopping centre, go out the port and head up hill to the left of port 5-10 mins walk. Don't know the age of your kids but there is also marineland 10 mins away by taxi , which had dolphin show, sea lions, parrots etc it also has its own small private beach - bus 103 Edited August 4, 2016 by gillyd42
Annabellecruiser Posted August 4, 2016 #9 Share Posted August 4, 2016 There is no beach worth going to in Palma, I suspect the excursion is to Palmanova. As there are a large group I would use taxis, taxis in Majorca normally only take four passengers, but there are also those that take 7 if you are lucky enough to find one. It will likely work out a lot cheaper for you to take a taxi, Palmanova is about 15-20 minutes from the port. There will be plenty of taxis in the resort, just make a mental note of where the taxi stands are when you are wandering round.
dltaeg Posted August 4, 2016 Author #10 Share Posted August 4, 2016 Thanks for the replies everyone. It is Palma Nova beach I mean too (sorry if I caused any confusion). Looks like a taxi is going to be our best bet then. Will there be some waiting as we get off the ship or do we need to walk into the town to find some? Kids are only young to at 2, 5 and 7 :) Pretty new to all this so thank you for all the helpful advice.
Norwich Cruiser Posted August 4, 2016 #11 Share Posted August 4, 2016 Get a taxi to Pallma Nova beach they are plentiful takes about fifteen minutes and costs about €20.00 each way. Cheaper than RCI excursion and you can choose your time to come and go. Lovely beach with lots to do.

HKA They do have an excursions to Drach caves and our choice was between that trip or the beach. I don't think the kids would have thanked us with the Caves and 3 days walking round Italy so we went the the "relaxing" trip to the beach :) It will be on our list for next time though. hollykimalan Posted August 4, 2016 #14 Share Posted August 4, 2016 I first went to the Caves when I was about 13 years old. It might be one of the best memories I have of that time. There will always be next time.
