El Morro question for recent visitors

We will be going to OSJ in Feb for the 2nd time with friends who want to see El Morro. We were there about 4 years ago. We walked to the fort and found ourselves walking along the water where all the cats are. The path dead ended and we could not get into the fort. Had to walk all the way around in the sweltering heat. Is that path still closed or can you now enter the fort from there? It would be nice to enter from 1 side and leave from the other. TIA!

If you'll look down the thread there is walking directions from someone that just did that walk from the port.

We were there in March and the path still dead ended. I read that someone said that it now is open. But if you don't want to take a chance you can enter the city through the red gate when walking along that path. You can't miss it. It is big and red and is on your right side when walking along the water.
