We are off to Alaska next week.

 

 

Little late to be doing research but here goes.

 

We are thinking of booking the "Wildlife & Birdlife Sanctuary Tour" from Ketchikan Shore Tours.

 

Anyone know anything -- pro or con -- about them?

What is your reason for choosing this? What do you want to see. About all you can expect- is a nice wooded, short walk, raindeer (caribou) eagles, (which you can see all over Alaska). A lot of people do not see any bears. Over all low sighting stats. IF bears are your interest, you have to be accepting of not seeing any. Far better chances elsewhere.

Thanks. Mostly interested in bears. Turns out they are full anyway. Suggestions for Ketchikan or Juneau for bear sightings?

I'd book any vendor that has space for Traitor's Cove out of Ketchikan. Try Southeast Aviation, etc.

 

Out of Juneau, you can park yourself, all day out at Mendenhall keeping an ear and eye out. Chance, but not high percentages of seeing bears.

 

Much better chances- IF interested, see if any Pack Creek permits are available your day, and get there.
