cormike1 Posted August 12, 2016 #1 Share Posted August 12, 2016 We are stopping in Kusadasi and were told we need a Visa that we can buy upon arrival. Is this true as I didn't see anything on the HAL website but I may have missed that info. Thanks.
Rare cruisemom42 Posted August 12, 2016 #2 Share Posted August 12, 2016 I'm not sure if it's true for everyone, but for US citizens, visas are not required for Turkey IF you are only stopping at a port during a cruise. However, if you are arriving in Turkey to board your ship or disembarking in Turkey after a cruise and flying home, you would need a visa. I'm pretty sure the same holds true for Canadians, but hopefully someone with experience will chime in. If you do need a visa, the way to get one is via this website: https://www.evisa.gov.tr/en/
Rare John Bull Posted August 12, 2016 #3 Share Posted August 12, 2016 cruisemom's post holds good for all cruise passengers who arrive at and leave Turkish ports on the ship, provided that they're in port for no more than 72 hours, and any overnites in port are spent on the ship rather than a hotel. This is a dispensation to passengers on cruise ships and ferries. So, for example, no visa is required for a port-of-call visit to Kusadasi :) Only those who arrive or leave Turkey by land or air (for instance if the cruise starts or finishes in Turkey) require a visa. And a few nationalities which have close ties with Turkey (not US, UK, Canuks, Aussies, Kiwis etc) are totally exempt from visa requirements. BTW, for those who fly in or out and therefore do need a visa, altho' visa-on-arrival is still available it's more expensive and bureaucratic than getting an e-visa on-line ahead of a visit. cormike1 Posted August 12, 2016 Author #4 Share Posted August 12, 2016 Thanks so much for those replies. There are a few countries like that so it is good to know I won't have to do that. Thanks again.
