I am putting my comments in red.

San Diego - ship docks downtown HIGHLIGHT!

Huatulco, Mexico - small town, nice, touristy but laidback, beach next to dock

Puerto Chiapas, Mexico - far from everything, we booked a nature tour, consider a coffee plantation unless you want to see one in Costa Rica

Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala - far from everything, we booked the tour "Antigua on your own" which provided the bus. Antigua is a great Spanish colonial town, well worth the long trip. HIGHLIGHT!

Puntarenas, Costa Rica - we booked a nature tour

Salaverry (Trujillo), Peru - great for pre-Inca ruins

Callao (Lima), Peru - see my other post, Minka market was a HIGHLIGHT!

Arica, Chile - wasn't there

La Serena (Coquimbo), Chile - Coquimbo is a seedy port town, good for Sunday market. La Serena is a nice colonial university town

Valparaiso (Santiago), Chile - great town, we did a walking tour, recommend it HIGHLIGHT!
