Jaddy Posted August 20, 2016 #1 Share Posted August 20, 2016 I saw some older posts suggesting that taxis in Phuket were controlled by a mafia type group and that charges for even short trips were beyond exorbitant. Does anyone know what the current situation is? When we arrive via Celebrity Constellation we want to take a taxi from Patong Beach (I think that's where the tender lets us off) to Avista Hideway Hotel. Any rough idea of what the taxi fare would be to there? Thanks.
Opua Kiwi Posted August 20, 2016 #2 Share Posted August 20, 2016 (edited) Transport problems are more for the ships which dock at the deep sea port on the SE side of the island past Phuket town. If you are tendering into Patong there will be plenty of transport options. I'm only guessing here, but I would have thought about THB 300 for that trip. If you can't find a taxi you're happy with there is always the Tuk Tuk option, which will probably be the same sort of price. When you arrive check the one way system in use. A short walk to catch transport heading in the correct direction may help. Edited August 20, 2016 by Opua Kiwi

We need to get our own transport to a dive shop because of time constraints. Should we try to arrange something ahead of time, or just look for a tuk tuk? DipBrat Posted January 5, 2017 #5 Share Posted January 5, 2017 Mafia is maybe too strong a word, maybe. The prices are exorbitant only by Thai standards. A lot lower than the free and fair prices in most European cities for example. Sent from my iPad using Forums
