Taters Posted May 16, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 16, 2004 I am very much looking forward to my first cruise on Princess this coming December. I've traveled on RCI four times and Carnival five times... So far, the RCI sailaway party on Song of America was the best of the best... There was a poolside band that got everyone dancing and waving to the folks left behind on shore and we had such a ball! Very festive! What can I expect during our sailaway party on the Island Princess? We will departing from San Pedro and this will be the Christmas and New Years cruise to/from Hawaii. Can't wait! DEERINH2O Posted May 17, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 17, 2004 I would like to know this too... We were on the Voyager (RCI) and we had so much fun at sailaway, dancing, and enjoying our sailaway drink... We are sailing on the Star Princess for Thanksgiving, I hope theres a sailaway party. CaptData Posted May 17, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 17, 2004 On the two Princess cruises I had there was a band playing at each sailaway. There were no streamers except at the Champaine Waterfall. I had a blast by the pool waving to the people in the condo's at FFL and at San Frans there were people by the pier to wave at as well. GloriaF Posted May 17, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 17, 2004 Onboard out of San Pedro is a party, but no farewell from shore. In FLL the condos and homes honk horns, wave flags, etc -- but not in San Pedro. kendon Posted May 17, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 17, 2004 Sometimes. Heading out to the Caribbean at 5 pm was more lively than the sailaway out of San Juan at 11 pm. Leaving Seattle toward Alaska, the sailaway was quite serious with a magnificent opera playing. I just think Princess is more understated than other lines. seagarsmoker Posted May 17, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 17, 2004 Ft Lauderdale departures are much more lively than San Pedro. That being said, they still play music and have a couple of businesses on the west (right) side of ship that acknowledge the ship leaving port. fun, fun, fun, the warmth of the sun, JBrown booked - Sun Princess (SC-10) Feb 27, 2005 Celebrity Century (EC-7)03/03 Sea Princess (MR-7) 03/02 Sea Princess (WC-7) 03/01 Grand Princess (EC-7) 03/99 Sun Princess (WC-7) 03/98 Celebrity Century (EC-7) 09/97 Star Princess (SC-7) 09/94 RCI SOS (EC-7) 03/92 Carnival SYJ (scrap yard junk) 09/
Taters Posted May 17, 2004 Author #9 Share Posted May 17, 2004 I guess we'll just see what happens when that day FINALLY comes around! LOL I'm still interested in the aforementioned champagne waterfall... Any input? Thanks a million! CCrs are the best! Aquarian Posted May 17, 2004 #10 Share Posted May 17, 2004 At around 11:30 PM, on second formal night, the maitre`d hotel and his head waiters build a pyramid out of champagne glasses in the main atrium. After the pyramid is completed, the maitre`d pours a bottle of champagne to get the waterfall started and then all the ladies are invited to come to the waterfall and assist the maitre`d pour the champagne over the champagne waterfall. This is a photo op for everyone and there is music and dancing, free champagne and hors douvres. Lots of fun, especially because everyone is in formal wear and in a party mood. Grego Posted May 17, 2004 #11 Share Posted May 17, 2004 As mentioned above, the sailings out of Port Everglades are very exciting. There is music, and even though they have substituted "Sailway, Sailway, Sailaway" and "Time to Say Good-bye" for the "Love Boat Theme" it is still fun. The streamers are gone, probably a environmental concern to someone, but the FOO-FOO drinks are readily available. You might want to go on the Roll Call Board and check for those going on the same cruise. We have arranged for those keeping in touch before the voyage to meet at one of the bar areas on the open decks as a get together and enjoy the departure. You might even find that the CD monitors that roll call and will put your group's plans in the Patter. At any rate, the sailway is a very important and exciting part of every cruise and you should arrange to make a party of it if nothing else is planned. Grego Posted May 17, 2004 #13 Share Posted May 17, 2004 Seagarsmoker, Love your CC Name. Wish I had thought of that. One the most enjoyable times on the ship is enjoying a fine cigar and brandy, or a cigar and anything else that's handy. We are sailing on the February 27th voyage next year( well I'll be - that's the same one you are on!!!) and we were fortunate enough to grab an aft mini-suite on the Dolphin deck. Makes it nice for us because we get to see two islands we have not been to before. Let us know what cabin you are in and we'll make arrangements to have a cigar or four. Also, as you might have read in my post for this subject, we usually put together a group that gets togther for the sailaway. This is where the "Foo-Foo Marching and Chowder Society" comes from in our signature line. Long story but....a great couple(Dan and Wilma) whom we have traveled with for the past two cruises and ourselves got togther on one of the "Who's going on this cruise?" type postings 2 years ago and come to find out they share the same anniversary date as Carolyn and I do and it's a date that falls within the time we like to cruise, March 6th. So we kept posting our replys on the board and others would write in and ask if they could join us for the sailaway and then they wanted to join our anniversary dinner at Sabatini's and then we just all kind of hung out together. I re-created the "Society" and recruited them as members and we have stayed in touch ever since. So, we have done the Coral Princess - Panama Canal trip then the Sun Princess this year and now the Sun next year together. If it hasn't been done already, it's Dan's turn to start the Roll Call for this voyage and we hope that you'll join in and keep in touch during the 285 and counting days left before we leave. If you choose to want to join the Society, I'll be glad to send you the entire membership application package which you'll have just enough time to complete before we sail. Good to hear from you and I know we'll have fun chatting for next few months before we leave. cactusrose Posted May 17, 2004 #14 Share Posted May 17, 2004 The best sail away I have had so far, was out of Sydney Harbor last November. They had bands and fire works. the Opera House was lit up on the Port side and the docks and streets were lined with people seeing us off. It was spectacular. I can hardly wait to see what kind of sail away we have out of Venice. 1952 - Excalibur (freighter) 1972 - Song of Norway, Caribbean 1980 - Hawaii American Curise line, Tahiti 09/01/2002 - Veendam, Alaska 05/29/2003 - Pacific Princess, Alaska 11/26/2003 - Star Princess, Australia/New Zealand 5/28/2004 - Star Princess, Venice to Barcelona 11/06/2004 - Diamond Princess, Mexican Riviera

seagarsmoker Posted May 18, 2004 #19 Share Posted May 18, 2004 We had a mini-suite back there on the Caribe deck, but it doesnt look too good for bonuses, so switched to a balcony room on the Baja in the very back. We're going to be with a group of 50+ so far. Looking forward to have a cigar with you - I'm sure over a 10 day cruise, we would have probably bumped into each other anyway.
