Louis Vuitton is about 6 blocks from the Vieux Port (the drop off place for most shuttles). But keep in mind that France has a 20% VAT Tax...so you may not save money buying in France (unless you know how to use the VAT refund scheme).

The referenced Rick Steves article is pretty good and tries to describe the hassles of a refund. In our experience, the easy way is if you get some help at the point of purchase (the store) where they can give you the appropriate form and fill out the relevant sections. But being France...you might get help...and you might get a shrug.

 

Over many years of travel, DW has tired of the entire process. She has also found that she can buy just about anything online (in the USA) for less money then it costs in Europe. And keep in mind that the refund scheme is nearly worthless unless you buy higher value items at a single store.

Plan to allow a lot of extra time and patience and if someone is on duty at the office in Rome at the time you need them to be there. I have attempted to do this - unsuccessfully and I was tenacious - in a similar two country scenario when I was departing from Italy and I could speak enough Italian to get my meaning across.

 

Also, as someone else mentioned, LV prices do not vary from France to the USA, Europe/Asia etc - I've checked over and over. They know that their items are in demand and prices are set accordingly in whichever currency the store is located in to reflect the price for whatever the item LV wishes for it to sell for..it is what it is.

 

I am not yet aware of an LV outlet anywhere in France but that doesn't mean one does not exist; I was once taken to an Armani outlet in Modena, Italy though when we drove up to it, one would never have known that this was what it was! It was not an outlet as one would think of it in the States; they only seemed to have limited pieces from select parts of the Armani line (Emporio, Exchange, etc) but still - it was nice. Probably pieces that didn't meet quality control though it was impossible to detect flaws. So, I'm guessing this might exist for LV or perhaps these things only get distributed/sold to employees? A perk maybe! :D

 

Sometimes the fun thing to do when in France was to shop for French brands (accessories, cosmetics, perfumes etc) that either weren't available in the US and start my own trend. It was always fun to hear "oh wow, that's nice..where'd you get it?"
