Would appreciate advice on Conquest

We sailed on her in April 2016 and this was definitely our favorite ship so far! Like the others have said, we did not experience any negatives on the Conquest. The food was great in the MDR, the staff were some of the friendliest and most helpful of any of our cruises and the ships layout just plain worked for us. The Alchemy Bar and the terraced Lido deck were two areas we spent a lot of time. We also did the Southern Caribbean and absolutely had the time of our lives! Whichever you choose, I hope you have a great time!

On Conquest, the cushioned sofas and lounge chairs are located on Deck 10, Port and Starboard side of the ship under the overhang which provides some nice shade. The Starboard side is for smokers. It is a very nice area with lots of sofas, chairs and tables just like the Serenity area on other Carnival ships. However, these areas were never crowded and we always found a nice, soft, sofa to take an afternoon nap.

Good to know! I don't remember seeing them in Sep 2013. This will add the Conquest back to our list of possibilities, thanks so much for the info!

We just came off the Conquest. It was a wonderful time. Never found the sewage smell anywhere, around the Casino was smoke smell. We were on deck 2, cabin 2293, great room Steward Sri. If you want really fancy food maybe not for you, but we enjoyed it. Not as much variety as in the past, but still very good. 2 formal nights and most people were dressed up saw a few tux and formal gowns, but mainly suites and nice dresses. We ended up spending about $200 for drinks, photos, bingo and donation to St Judes. I never felt nickeled and dimed. We don't do the Spa, very expensive I think for what you get. We did the steakhouse on our last Conquest cruise and it was very good. The last night I did order the Surf and Turf $20 in the dining room and it was very good. Shows were entertaining. Overall we really enjoyed the cruise.

The Conquest is our favorite ship.

We will be sailing on her for the 4th time in 12 days.

She does not have a serenity area but there is an adults only pool.

I say you should always try something once and if you don't like it, you don't have to do it again!

Happy Sailing!!!!

I've sailed the Conquest a few times, including a B2B. You have a nice itinerary, and if you compared pricing and found similar cost on another line like RCCL, Princess or Celebrity, you might be better off taking one of those ships to satisfy your comfort level.

However, if you want to try something new and different, the Conquest will be adequate. Food is subjective, and I think most on this Carnival board will say that Carnival has the best food. Many who make that claim haven't sailed other lines.

I've found food on Celebrity's food to be better than Carnival, so is NCL's specialty dining which is a great add on if you can get it for free. Otherwise RCCL and NCL MDR's are not as good as Carnival's.

Compare your time in port to see who gives you the most and if you choose Carnival, stay away from the main pool area to avoid most of the banal silliness that goes on there.

NCL's specialty dining which is a great add on

The only time we paid for one of the special dinings was on an NCL for my wifes 50th.

One of the worst meals we have ever had & the only time we have ever walked out of a restaurant, half way through a meal.

We got a refund!

It's got us cautious of paying for any specialty restaurants again!

Sorry that happened to you. What ship, what restaurant?

I've sailed the Breakaway and Epic and had wonderful meals in a variety of specialty restaurants. And I've always had an excellent meal in every one of Carnival's Steakhouse. Only so so meal on Carnival specialty was LaCucina, but hey I'm a Bronx born Italian and accustomed to real homemade Southern Italian cooking.

Thank you! I've heard actually from many people that they preferred Carnival's food better. And yes, we're looking at the Dec 10th sailing.

We are booked on that cruise, go to the roll call if you decide to go. I have heard horror stories from every ship we sailed on, even ones we were on at the time, take with a grain of salt.

I've been out of cruising for 5 years now due to my husbands failing health and now that he's passed, I'm looking at cruising again. My sister and I are looking for a cruise that would include Aruba and Bonaire. I'm someone who likes to follow rules, I do appreciate formal nights, I don't have a problem with dress shorts on casual night, but hate to get nickled and dimed to death with extras that are included on other lines. I haven't sailed Carnival before but have sailed quite a bit on Princess, RCCL, Celebrity and even 1 NCL. We're looking at the Conquest but after reading reviews about the ship looking old, smelling like sewage and an overworked crew etc, I'm a bit worried. I'm turning to you all for advice please.

We were on the Conquest last NYE for an 8 day Southern Caribbean that included Aruba and Curacao. We had the best time ever! The crew was awesome and after sailing with Royal for 10 years, Carnival Conquest was a breath of fresh air especially the level of service we received.

Dress is more casual -- you can dress as formal or as dress down as you want with very few restrictions for the MDR. Conquest was refurbished a couple of years ago and free food venues such as Guy's burger and Blue Iguana added. I guess if you look at every nook and cranny you will find a chair with a hole or a crack somewhere since the ship is older but I didn't think the ship looked old and never smelled sewage. The crew was the best we've encountered in a long time, always smiling eager to help. I didn't once pass a crew member who didn't acknowledge me in some way. The rules for the Serenity area was politely enforced.

In terms of nickel and diming -- that's up to you - do you want to eat at specialty restaurants? how much alcohol you drink? Do you like to order room service at night? There are charge items that any cruise line charges nowadays.

You will have a blast on the Conquest - but then again a cruise is what you make of it -- there are some people who cannot be happy no matter what and they love to write reviews here. Take that with a grain of salt.

We've been on the Conquest twice, and would not hesitate to sail her again. Based on your post and preferences, I'd say Princess or Celebrity may better suit your tastes.

If one can decipher tastes on one paragraph. :)

We, too have sailed those lines and formal nights are a bit fancier.

But...we do go back to Carnival just for fun.

Whatever you do....ENJOY!

But.... Conquest doesn't have a Serenity area.
