travelbug246 Posted September 21, 2016 #1 Share Posted September 21, 2016 I am booking accommodation before and after cruise and wondered what are the nearest hotels to the port where Viking Sea arrives and departs on the Homelands Cruise. Would love to hear from any one re preferences.
mhb1757 Posted September 22, 2016 #2 Share Posted September 22, 2016 Can't speak to the Stockholm end but the closest hotels in Bergen are the Radisson Blu and the Clarion Havnekontoret. The latter has rates that include breakfast and an evening buffet. Both have excellent reviews. Viking uses the Radisson Blu for their pre/post cruise extension in Bergen. TERRIER1 Posted September 22, 2016 #3 Share Posted September 22, 2016 In Bergen there is the Radisson Blu and Clarion. Since our voyage was truncated due to engine problems, Viking put us up at the Scandic which is within walking distance to town but not convenient. It was a pretty basic hotel and unless you are on a tight budget I would stay at the other hotels. In Stockholm we stayed at the Radisson Blue by the rail station since it was convenient and we flew into Stockholm and took the Arlanda Express to the city. The hotel is convenient to most sites and within walking distance if you like to stroll. The price included breakfast which was very good. There are hotels closer to where Viking docks but we elected to stay at the Radisson and take a taxi to the ship since we had luggage.

trav25 Posted October 28, 2016 #10 Share Posted October 28, 2016 We stayed in Stockholm last May for four days. We knew then that we would be back June of 2017 to begin our Homelands tour. We looked at where the ships are docked and really none are within walking distance to hotels. We are just planning to stay where we did before because of its proximity to the hop on hop off buses and boats as well as fabulous (but expensive) restaurants. We are staying at the Raddison Blu Strand. I gather from info here that Viking uses the Radisson Blu Waterfront. Perfectly fine hotel (my niece stayed there). Strand is more expensive because of its fabulous location. If you go early, it is super easy to catch the Arlanda train from the airport into the main part of Stockholm. When you get to Stockholm Central, buy a Stockholm pass there. Easiest place to buy it. It includes museums but not transportation. You can get a separate ticket for the subway or buses but we just used the hop on hop off bus and boats because we wanted to see everything. You will love Stockholm! We got cheap tickets to the opera and had a great time.
