donkaufman Posted September 23, 2016 #1 Share Posted September 23, 2016 Planning our first river cruise on Avalon. I have a question on the Category B and P cabins on the "suite" ships, specifically the Panorama. I know they are the same size/layout, but is there a benefit/negative to one deck over the other. Apart from the obvious possible better view being higher.(more/less noise, engine vibration, deck chair noise, etc.) The choices are the Category B in the aft on the second level(Sapphire) and pretty wide open for the Cat P on the third level(Royal). Thanks for any help. dk
acwmom Posted September 23, 2016 #2 Share Posted September 23, 2016 I had the least expensive category of the panorama suite. I was the forward most of the category. No problems whatsoever. Save you money, and go with the lowest price available. Robin
Kenato Posted September 23, 2016 #3 Share Posted September 23, 2016 Like you we were unsure on our first trip and selected top deck, mid-ship on the Panorama and it was great. That being said, we could have saved a few dollars and gone on the second deck and I am sure would have been just as happy. There have been postings for various lines of noise and vibration at the rear of boats so just to be on the safe side I would select mid-ship or forward. On our sailing, the last six or so cabins on the back of the upper deck were empty, obviously not the prime choice. Hope this helps.
I_r_a Posted September 26, 2016 #4 Share Posted September 26, 2016 Hi D, We are just off the Avalon Passion - cabin 217. The middle of the boat is the most comfortable. We saw no advantage to deck 3. Going upstream on the Danube, the port side of the boat is the better side. Ira
donkaufman Posted September 26, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted September 26, 2016 Thanks for the help. Ira, The only middle of the boat available is on deck 3. deck 2 only have extreme aft available, (rear most 2 or 3 cabins). We are sailing South, so does that mean the starboard side would be best? Or does it not matter due to rafting at the docks. dk
I_r_a Posted October 2, 2016 #6 Share Posted October 2, 2016 Hi Don, Sorry to be so late responding. >deck 2 only have extreme aft available You might find the noise and vibration from the engines unpleasant - especially when docking in the very early morning. >We are sailing South, so does that mean the starboard side would be best? Or does it not matter due to rafting at the docks. I can't tell you, as I don't know if the Captains prefer to dock facing upstream, or if all of the docks are on the same side of the river. As far as rafting goes, you are likely to have boats on either side. Hope this helps. Ira
