jessrosa Posted September 26, 2016 #1 Share Posted September 26, 2016 I have just noticed the free in room movies have disappeared from the star class perks. Can anyone confirm that. I am sailing on Ovation at the end of the year and was looking forward to that perk. Also do loft suites have DVD players? Thanks
Rare A&L_Ont Posted September 26, 2016 #2 Share Posted September 26, 2016 (edited) I just double checked my amenities list from late August and I did not see it mentioned there or in any of my literature. We never asked our Genie as we never watched any, but perhaps the best thing to do is ask yours once you board this ship. EDIT: we were on Allure but I don't think it should make a difference. Frick_&_Frack Posted September 27, 2016 #4 Share Posted September 27, 2016 It was on the original flyer that in house movies were included. If you find out, could you please post? I like to watch a movie (well, attempt it - usually fall asleep ) later in the evening.

Frick_&_Frack Posted September 27, 2016 #6 Share Posted September 27, 2016 On Oasis in August our genie told us they discontinued that perk. Sent from my iPhone using Forums Well, that's sad (and, yes, I'm sure it's sad that I watch movies on a cruise LOL). Did they have DVD players? I know I'm not going on Oasis; however, would just be interested in knowing.
pkexton Posted September 27, 2016 #7 Share Posted September 27, 2016 Or you can just go sit somewhere & people-watch - it's much more entertaining:) Pat
Frick_&_Frack Posted September 27, 2016 #8 Share Posted September 27, 2016 Or you can just go sit somewhere & people-watch - it's much more entertaining:) Pat I spend the majority of my day doing that (and, yes, it can be very entertaining ;)). However, I have so very little time during the "regular" year to watch any movies, it's my downtime to do that, uninterrupted. Funny, started that with DH a number of years ago and it's just something I've come to enjoy. Oh well, if there's no DVD player, I'll just purchase the movies. Thanks! Rare crusinthrough Posted September 27, 2016 #9 Share Posted September 27, 2016 Star class benefits keep dwindling away. As benefits keep disappearing it makes it difficult to justify the extra cost for a Star suite vs a Sky suite. The Royal Genie doesn't seem to add that much more value compared to the concierge. How much does in suite movies cost RC? Sent from my iPhone using Forums

So having or not having this perk would make no difference to me, and makes no difference to my decision. What I'm saying is whether it's worth it to someone to go Star is very subjective. And unless you follow these boards I would bet the majority of people booking Star have no idea what was or wasn't offered at the start and what has been adjusted. nelly55 Posted September 27, 2016 #11 Share Posted September 27, 2016 Not same class of ship I know but just got off Indy on 19th and first morning we got a phone message from Felix the concierge stating if we wanted to watch the pay movies we could do so and he would credit the charge back. Previous cruises in a GS there was a dvd player but they have gone.

However, this would not be a deciding factor in Sky vs Star. What I am wondering, Are the benefits (gratuities, speciality dining, drink package and Royal Genie) worth the price difference between Star and Sky? I have seen the difference as high as 5k. jandj1224 Posted September 27, 2016 #13 Share Posted September 27, 2016 This is actually disappointing to me. We are booked in ATS Sky suite and I was looking forward to the movies. On our last cruise in Haven on NCL movies were included and we watched quite a few. Hopefully they will credit back and that was what was advertised when we booked... chef_christoph Posted September 27, 2016 #14 Share Posted September 27, 2016 I got off Allure on September 18 and, although the in-suite movies weren't mentioned as a perk on the list of Star Class amenities we received, we did in fact watch a couple movies without incurring any charge Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
MattInFLL Posted September 28, 2016 #15 Share Posted September 28, 2016 I think many will be surprised and find it is still included. A lot of people said the mini bar perk had been dropped, but as Andrew recently found out, that was hardly the case. As for price differences - these 11 or 12 cabins were always a big jump (generally) over what is now Sky class. The RLS, OLS and GLS are significantly larger with more design perks such as the hot tubs and huge bathrooms and larger decks. It has always been supply and demand. The SLS to us was justified over a crown loft, especially when adding Star class perks and the genie. I have never seen an ATS, but for up to 8 people to get Star benefits seems like it will work out ok on price per person.

I certainly hope not. I know that I booked one of these suites with full expectations, but now seeing cutbacks. Don't know what to think- but I know that I am boarding with full expectation that despite my not making any dining or entertainment reservations, our party will be able to attend any show we please, when we choose to see it. We paid for a service; I am hoping against hope we got what we paid for. Wish me luck!
jessrosa Posted September 28, 2016 Author #17 Share Posted September 28, 2016 We watch a lot of movies while cruising. This is our first RC cruise that the ship has in house movies . Is it the same as hotel in house movies, lots variety or not.

A lot of people said the mini bar perk had been dropped, but as Andrew recently found out, that was hardly the case. Matt - I have to think you've nailed it with the above. I think some things are just "included" - so they don't give them "shout outs". Maybe incorrect of them to do that; however, I'm thinking that may be the case. I think the literature has changed - but not the deliverables. I'm just going and, I know, assuming, all will be good. :D Then again, as long as they make dining ressies for me, and maybe a few shows (I'm not really into shows - haven't gone to one in years and years now - but some seem so unique), that's about all I need. I still think the on/off escort is worth the price alone (just ask me about debark from the Haven on the Escape a week ago **shudders**). It's what the Genies main responsibility is and almost all reports are that they do it really well. Unless you are trying to book a party of 10 at teppanyaki every night :) The only venue no one can guarantee is the comedy club on Oasis and Allure. It's small and no saved seats. So book that ahead if it's a top priority. And despite reports of things being taken away, recent Star Class cruisers aren't saying that. Hope you have a great time.
