glamb Posted October 3, 2016 #1 Share Posted October 3, 2016 I'm going to book an Alaskan cruise on the Ruby and I have only been on one other cruise, but not on the Ruby. I was wondering if anyone could give me any hints or advice? I was thinking of choosing a mid-aft balcony on the Baja deck. Is this a good location? I appreciate any and all comments. Thanks! jasmith52 Posted October 4, 2016 #2 Share Posted October 4, 2016 (edited) I was thinking of choosing a mid-aft balcony on the Baja deck. Is this a good location? I prefer the mid-aft location that you indicated. It should ride well and give you a good view. If you want one of the larger balconies the next deck down (Caribe) has the half-covered, half-open balcony. I like those best. Actually any cabin on a cruise is a good cabin ! In my opinion people over-state the differences between cabins. They are pretty much all the same. And if you can walk a few steps you can get anywhere from any cabin. The cabins in front will have a bit more motion. Edited October 4, 2016 by jasmith52
glamb Posted October 4, 2016 Author #3 Share Posted October 4, 2016 Thank you. I agree that any cabin is good! I can't wait. Thanks again! Sent from my iPhone using Forums
bigenna Posted October 4, 2016 #4 Share Posted October 4, 2016 I agree with jasmith52. The one most important (to me anyway) thing I do is to look at the deck plans above and below where I am considering as well as on each side of me, across the hall etc. I am a light sleeper and like to minimize any early morning or late night noise. Have fun on your cruise. I am also sailing on the Ruby in January.
glamb Posted October 4, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted October 4, 2016 I did check and it's all cabins. Should be quiet. Have a great time on your cruise! Thanks. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Lucky TGO Posted October 4, 2016 #6 Share Posted October 4, 2016 I always book a cabin on the Caribe or Baja decks and never had a problem. Tony

PoohUnderstands Posted October 4, 2016 #8 Share Posted October 4, 2016 As far as balconies go on the Ruby, it all depends on what you like and don't like about a balcony, not just its size. On Ruby, I had a balcony cabin (mid aft as far forward as you can get). This way you basically are mid ship but save a few dollars. We were on Deck 12 for the first time and I found that I like that location most. Being out on our balcony will tell you why. The balconies on deck 9 jut way out so that they are completely uncovered and therefore completely "unprivate." Deck 10's are bigger but that part that juts out and makes it bigger is open to sun, rain, and people's eyes. Deck 11 I can see right down into from my balcony. Now my balcony on deck 12 sits back in so that it is completely covered and very private. Deck above me(deck 14)balcony is right on top of ours so they can't see into ours. So for the above reasons, I like a balcony front mid-aft on deck 12 on the Ruby. Pooh

glamb Posted October 4, 2016 Author #10 Share Posted October 4, 2016 Thank you for this. We were on 11 on the Crown and they couldn't see in the balcony from above. I appreciate your help. Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app
