messej01 Posted October 10, 2016 #1 Share Posted October 10, 2016 Hi, We will be going to Noumea on our Celebrity cruise in March 2017 and would like to visit the Cultural Centre. Last time we were in Noumea taxis were few and far between. Does anyone know which bus to catch, where it leaves from and the cost? Thanks Julie

Mr Princess Posted October 10, 2016 #3 Share Posted October 10, 2016 Hi Julie. If you ask at the cruise terminal when you arrive they may be able to help you. The information centre is in the city central park (Place de Cocotiers). We have been by public transport ourselves some years ago, but I wouldn't trust my memory on details. ;-0 There also is a tourist web site for Noumea which is useful. Check the opening days and times for the Tjibaou Centre. Certainly worth a visit. MP. Sent from my iPad using Forums

Meamat Posted October 28, 2016 #5 Share Posted October 28, 2016 http://www.karuiabus.nc/ This website is the regular city bus - but you do need a bit of french! The maps are helpful though. This is the general map - so you're looking at the pink 40 bus http://www.karuiabus.nc/le-reseau/plan-du-reseau And this is the timetable http://www.karuiabus.nc/images/sampledata/reseau/horaires/2016/BAT_D%C3%A9pliant_Horaires_Ligne_40_1.pdf

jspqld Posted October 31, 2016 #8 Share Posted October 31, 2016 We tried to go there once, but as mentioned no taxis to be seen. Then enquired about it within the terminal building and were told we had already missed the one and only bus going there that day. So maybe get off early if you want to see it. We were also told you need a French/English guide if you want to get the most out of it.
The_Big_M Posted November 1, 2016 #9 Share Posted November 1, 2016 We were also told you need a French/English guide if you want to get the most out of it. That's true in the way you get more from a guide on most things where they are familiar with the subject. The books there are in French, being the local language. However, all the visitor signage and facilities are in English as well, so you don't feel lost about what you're looking at, or that there's no point to go. The main thing is the architecture, designed by Piano, and grounds. It's a very nice place to visit.

I have more information in my cruise port summary post, link in my signature :) Check the cultural centre homepage for opening days, as they are not opened every day. We went on a closed day and we're still able to walk around and see the architecture, the museum sections were however closed.

I didn't think the HOHO bus included the Cultural Central, that is great if it does as we would probably have lunch at Lemon Bay, so can go to both places. Yes, I took it there. However, not every bus goes out to it.
