The Popes balcony ...

After such a long day we went to make our way to the train station near the Vatican to make our way back to the ship. We were going to try and get a train at 3pm.

However we passed by a nice looking restaurant on the way to the train station and everyone wanted to have something to eat and drink. We had a couple of nice pizzas to share and a portion of fries as well. A drink each as well and it was not too expensive at about 10 euro each.

We made our way to the train station to catch the 4pm train only to find that ALL TRAINS HAD BEEN CANCELLED    .

I now started to panic big time, I did not want to miss the ship as we were not on a Carnival excursion. Nobody on the train platform could speak English so we had no idea what was going on. A guy in uniform was talking to the waiting passengers in Italian letting them know what was going on but he could not speak English so he could not help us.

After what seemed like an eternity a woman came up to us as she could see I was running around like a headless chicken and was about to hatch an egg,

and spoke English and she told us that the station before this one had part of the platform collapse onto the train tracks. This meant they were having to divert trains around it. Trains were due to start arriving from 5pm HOPEFULLY.

Thankfully this lovely woman made us all feel a bit better and no eggs were laid as a result.

She was from Newcastle in the north of the UK. She had been living and working in Rome for the past 5 yrs. She also was going on the train we were and getting off just before we were. Thankfully a train pulled into our platform that was going to Pisa and would pass through Civ.... according to our new found savior from Newcastle.

So at about 5.10pm we finally set off back to the ship. Unfortunately as there had been no trains for over an hour you can imagine how packed this train was. Standing room only with only a smelly armpit for company.

Thankfully we made it back in time at about 6.30pm. Sorry I did not get any pictures of the above but I can assure you it was not a pretty sight.

Anyway we went to the pool deck and had some much needed cocktails to calm down. It was very late when we went to get ready for dinner....

I think we went back to the piano bar and finished off the day there. I was in bed before 10.30pm as we had another big day planned for Naples.

Coming up tomorrow night - Naples and our visit to the Island of Capri. :)

We did it the opposite way around. Vatican first all the way around, Spanish Steps, Trevi fountain, Pantheon, etc and ended up at the Colosseum, then got the subway to termini and train back to the port

Hi bluwes, it was a very long walk but I need the exercise :D .

I fell in love with the trees in Italy as well. Our tour guide to Pisa told us they are Pine Nut Trees, they're just gorgeous. You're review is bringing back so many awesome memories, thank you so much.

Hi Club Disney Chandler, the trees just look so green and come in such lovely shapes and sizes. It did help that we had such perfect blue skies as well.

Glad the review is bringing back good memories as well. :)

It was going to be the third day in a row ashore and I could not wait for the sea day to arrive. :)

I went to breakfast and then it was going to be just my brother and I going on a SNAV Hydrofoil to the Island of Capri. The cost was 39 euro return and took about 45mins.

This is the view from inside the hi speed ferry. There is a outside deck upstairs but it was closed as it was very windy....

We queued for quite a while as there was only a couple of buses going there it seemed. They were really small buses with only about 4 seats in them. We had to stand up for the 20 min journey. Now if anyone has done this journey on the bus you know how TERRIFYING it is, people were screaming in fear as we were climbing the narrow road up the cliff to the top. I am sure the drivers do it on purpose to scare the living daylights out of the tourists. When a vehicle came towards us the driver would go to the very edge of the narrow road and it looked as though we were about to fall off down this cliff into the sea it was VERY VERY VERY SCARY. My heart was having palpitations, I don`t think I have ever been so scared. It was even worse going downhill on the way back.

When we got to the top we made our way to the chair lift, this cost 15 euro return, also for the bus ride from hell it was 3.50 euro return.

Here is the chair you sit in ....

There is a cafe at the top as well serving drinks and food and expensive ice cream, 7 euro a scoop. At the bottom near the bus stop I got 3 scoops for 4 euro and it was gorgeous.

Just catching up on your review. Your photos are fantastic!!! Looking forward to the rest. BTW, we ate at JiJi's on the Carnival Sunshine and it was BY FAR the best meal that we had on our cruise. Thanks for bringing back those wonderful memories! :D

We then got the Hydrofoil back to Naples. They were building just opposite the port and they were doing the same building a few years earlier on another visit to Naples...
