can we bring shells home from BVI?

Mmm. I wouldn't. Think of that saying about our National Parks: "Take nothing but pictures." No rocks, no twigs, etc.

 

Witnessed a dramatic incident on one of the islands where a member of our tour proudly displayed a dead, dried-out sea fan that had washed up on the beach. They were going to put it in a lamp. The tour guide started loudly scolding them and actually turned the van around to make them put it back!

They kept saying, "But it's dead."

 

Another aspect is re-entering the US where they ask all those questions about did you get mud on your shoes, etc.

 

All that being said, I'm guessing you will find any number of shops near the docks where you can BUY shells... ;-)

 

(Disclaimer: I did collect some tiny bits of sea glass from the beach at Nice last month...washed in the sink and did not report on my customs form.)
