I have read we will be spending overnight in Nassau and no Freeport. I called Carnival just a bit ago and they said no word as of yet. So I dont know what to believe. If we are in Nassau how does that work? What will the intinerary be for the 4 night cruise next Sunday? Will the ship shops be closed and the casino? What is going on,lol? We just want to know why we couldnt go to HMC or Key West? So if anyone has received an email from Carnival can you please share..

That's the itinerary several of the shorter ones are getting stuck with. Unfortunately other ports are probably full. That's one port I sure wouldn't want to be in overnight. Who wants to be in a port with safety warnings after dark all night? From what I've heard the shops are open and the casino does open around 8pm. I would just plan on staying on board in the evening and treating it as a sea day/evening.

I just checked the Nassau webcam and carnival fantasy and Norwegian sky are still in port at almost 1 am

Not surprising; Norwegian tends to use Freeport a lot as a port of call. They're having to scramble to find alternate itineraries.

Given a choice of being ashore and paying for drinks in a dangerous-after-dark town or being onboard Norwegian Sky and drinking for free (it's now open bar on all sailings)......I think I'd be on the ship after 8 pm. :)

Regarding other possible ports than Freeport, Nassau is just about the only viable option. Key West has limited dock space, the private islands can generally take only one ship at a time (and that's in good weather), and everything else is just too far south for short itineraries. Longer cruises can maybe substitute Grand Turk or Amber Cove, but those have limited space, too.

Just got off valor they stayed in nassau overnite left at 530 am next day stores while in port were closed the whole time reopened at 9am the next day after we left port the casino did open that nite we docked around 7pm.so basically got a sea day. Enjoy the cruise also they stopped the fish and chips and replaced it with barbecue everyday.

Huh, I didn't think Carnival had rolled out Ol' Fashioned Barbeque to replace Fish'n'Chips on any other ship besides Conquest so far...interesting. It's free, and pretty good.

If they're replicating those changes on Valor, they'll install Seafood Corner in the back (across from Pizza Pirate). It's a for-fee seafood place with a larger menu than Fish'n'Chips had.
