Firsttimecruiser2016 Posted October 24, 2016 #1 Share Posted October 24, 2016 I'm traveling here on the BA in march of 17, I have never been here before so what kind of things are there to do on the island? Is it mostly beach or is there other things? How about shopping? TIA!! Sent from my iPhone using Forums
cb at sea Posted October 24, 2016 #2 Share Posted October 24, 2016 It's the Private island the cruise line uses...it's a beach day, pure and simple. There are loungers everywhere (and you can move them about , if you want to)...lunch is brought from the ship and served on the beach... There will be some sort of local market...bring cash for that. Everything else you could buy will be on your ship's account, just like on the ship. There are watersport excursions(like wave runners,, snorkeling excursions, float rentals, etc...) You can come and at will...some folks stay all day...some never leave the ship! We enjoy the private island days!

sometimes sailor Posted October 26, 2016 #4 Share Posted October 26, 2016 10/25/2016 (3:40 p.m. EDT) -- Damage from Hurricane Matthew has delayed the opening of Great Stirrup Cay, Norwegian Cruise Line's private island in the Bahamas, until November 20. The popular cruise stop has been closed since August 25, as it undergoes renovations as part of the line's The Norwegian Edge program. When it opens, the island will have new attractions, dining venues (including a Jimmy Buffet restaurant), private villas, a lagoon, two zip lines, an underwater sculpture garden and a boardwalk. Great Stirrup Cay was intended to reopen on October 20. "Due to the storm's effects on the island and the resulting delays in construction, the island will remain closed for an additional four weeks to complete the planned upgrades," the line said in a statement.
