Cheers Ordering Question

Hi all, I did try and find the answer to this on my own but, no luck.

Is the 5 min ordering limit only apply to alcoholic drinks? Could I order a glass of wine and a bottle of water at the same time under Cheers?

And another question, that I'm sure has been asked so, I apologize in advance, after the 15 drink limit for Cheers, are you allowed to purchase more drinks?

Tia!

I could be wrong and I'm sure I will be corrected quickly on here if I am:

I believe it's 15 minutes apart and from my experience you cannot order more drinks after the 15 minimum is reached.

As far as getting water with your wine, we have had bartenders bring us water with the wine.

Ok, just found the answer to my last question on the Carnival website, will post for others.

After the 15 drink limit is reached you cannot be served ANY alcholic drinks so, I guess when you get to drink 14, you better order 2-3 more (and pay separate) so that you don't get stopped completely at drink 15?

And it is 5 min between drinks but, it does not say if that means alcohol drink or not.

Does anyone know what Zero proof drinks are? Apparently those are only every 5 min as well?

Zero proof drinks should be the virgin drinks.

And you can handle more than 15 drinks in a day, every day, for the length of a cruise without being severely intoxicated???:eek:

Not that it's anyone business but, I'm more concerned about my ability to buy drinks for friends, etc. We like to buy drinks for friends and I'm just trying to clarify the rules.

And by saying "buy" I mean actually purchasing them. I'm not trying to scam, I just want to know if I purchase too many drinks for my friends, will I be refused service?

So if you start drinking at 10AM and have a drink an hour until Midnight you will have 14 drinks and not even be close to intoxicated. Your body eliminates 1 drink an hour exactly what your taking in. My DW and I do this almost every day at sea on our cruises, just sipping and relaxing. On port days I drink from about 5 till midnight and usually slip in an extra drink or 2 to reach about 10 drinks in 7 hours. Never intoxicated. It really baffles me how people think 15 drinks in a day is impossible to not be falling down drunk.

Yes, non-alcoholic beverages are also 1 every 5 minutes. On my last cruise I wanted to order a coconut water and an alcoholic beverage and could not do so at the same time. I ordered my coconut water, chugged it, by the time the bartender got back around to me I could buy my second

Yes, you can purchase as many drinks for your friends as you like without a time limit, but you have to pay for them. You can order, for example, a round of shots and your shot will be free with Cheers but you will pay for the others.

Drinking before your 15th drink is a little trickier. 99% of the time if you are on drink 13 or 14 you will have no problem paying for a drink. I say 99% because ONE time (I've used the Cheers program for 4 cruises and it's only happened ONE night) a server told me I couldn't purchase drinks if I was on the Cheers program. He and I went round and round on the subject and ultimately I think it was a communication thing and he wasn't getting what I wanted. I had to walk to the casino bar (the only one open) and told the bartender that I was on my 14th drink and wanted to purchase one rather than use my program. He happily poured my drink and handed me a slip to sign and pay for my drink. Some will argue this isn't how the program was designed and the server was right, but the 2 times I purchased Cheers on the ship it was explained to me to count my drinks and start paying for them before I had my 15th drink. I have also only had ONE server tell me no, and I almost always have to pay for at least 2 drinks (especially on Sea days).

For the record we start with mimosas or bloody Mary's when we wake up around 8am, we drink throughout the day, and are regularly out until 2-4am. We get very little sleep on the ship.

We have always purchased extra drinks. You have to do so BEFORE the 15th drink. You can ask the bartender how many you have had, or my fiance likes to make tally marks on his hand when he signs his receipts. Like I said, this is how I was sold on the program; I've been told multiple times just to keep track and start telling the bartenders I want to pay for my drink once I hit my 13th or 14th drink. I have on ONE occasion been told by a server he could not do that, so I had to walk to the bar and get my own drink. The bartender had no problem selling it to me since I had not had my 15th drink on my program.

When I did Cheers last they didn't have all of the non alcoholic drinks like coffee and bottled water, so I don't know about that part. However, I do know that you are allowed to buy drinks for others even if you have Cheers. The drinks that you buy for others do not count towards your 15 drink limit. Just remember that once you have reached 15 drinks they will not let you buy anymore.

I did exactly that last year when I was at 14 drinks at the end of the night, and some new friends in the night club bought me a shot. I was able to return the favor and get shots for all of us. Mine counted as my last drink on Cheers and theirs were charged to my account. The bartender also mentioned that I wouldn't be able to buy any more after that since I had reached my 15 drink limit.

I can answer this for you. 1 "drink" for the purposes of raising your BAC .02 is defined as a 4 oz glass of wine, a 12 oz glass of beer or 1 shot; they all contain approximately the same amount of ethyl alcohol. The average person can process between .01 and .02 per hour; the more often you drink (take alcoholics) will process closer to the high end whereas a general non drinker closer to .01 per hour. Then add in the fact that MANY of the drinks served on the ship - lets say martini's and long island iced teas for example, are far more than one shot - really more like 2-3. So, mathematically, that one drink can raise your BAC .04-.06. So really, it can be more like drinking 30+ drinks a day, depending on what you are drinking.

Hope that helps....

Buying, meaning paying for them, does not go against your Cheers count. After your 15th Cheers drink in a day (0600-0600), you will be refused service period.

Considering many, if not most of the heavy drinkers here seem to try and find a way to scam the system (just read the smuggling threads), I cast a leery eye towards someone who asks how to get more than 15 drinks a day. A drink an hour, every single hour is more than the body should be able to safely handle as noted by the rash of people going overboard. But if you are on the up and up, the above method is how you can purchase drinks for your friends.

I think if you took a breathalyzer you would get a different answer but that is only my opinion. Unfortunately I've seen plenty of people who were "not intoxicated" do really stupid things and some got hurt because of it even though they were "not intoxicated". The police officer disagreed with their personal assessment.

It's quite easy to drink in excess of 15 drinks in a day and not be severely intoxicated.

This

In my line of work I run into a lot of so called "professional" alcoholics with very high BAC's upwards of .12 who can still "function". That's just tolerance legally they are still intoxicated.

It all depends on your height weight and amount time between drinks. Food and water only help pace the absorption of the alcohol, they don't help sober you up by any means.

As to the OP's question we had Cheers on the Magic back in 2015 at that time you couldn't get more than one beverage in the time frame alcoholic or otherwise. Happy sailing! :D

On both the Breeze and the Magic recently I didn't have a problem getting a drink at the bar & getting a bottled water at the same time. I'm not sure if you could order both from a bar waiter, but the bartenders didn't seem to have a problem with it.

If one bartender won't give you a water at the same time you order a drink - try another bartender.
