tidecat Posted November 6, 2016 #26 Share Posted November 6, 2016 Many of you have suggested a cooler and ice....don't the rooms have mini fridges? Sent from my SM-N900W8 using Forums mobile app Some do, some don't - even within the same ship. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note7 using Tapatalk. Hey, do you smell anything burning? crochuma Posted November 6, 2016 #28 Share Posted November 6, 2016 Bring a corkscrew if you are bringing on your own wine bottles. Having to call and wait for room service then tip them just for opening your bottle of wine becomes a nuisance.
A&Jfamily Posted November 6, 2016 #29 Share Posted November 6, 2016 These threads are great - if for nothing else but a good laugh. :D I would say that the best way to travel for a cruise is LIGHT. Make sure you have some clothes, swimsuit, comfortable shoes, toiletries, medication, sunscreen, sunglasses, eye glasses/contacts, your cruise paperwork/IDs) and money (cash and credit). Any thing else (and even some of the things listed above, can be purchased without any extraordinary cost if forgotten) is really extraneous and you can survive a cruise without it. For example, one time my DH SHOES broke - he found a decent pair of topsiders to fit the bill in the Fun Shops. Still wears them to this day and for $50 was not unreasonable I am amazed at the number of things some posters find absolutely necessary (over the door shoe organizer, cups, bungee cord, pop-up hamper, highlighter, post-its etc) to cruising. We have learned to downsize and can easily do a 7 day cruise, plus travel days, with a carry on suit case and a small backpack. The only things I bring that are "extra" are: my cell phone and charger, something to read (book or tablet), lanyards, a command hook (to hang lanyards), a few clothes pins (though when forgotten I just hang my suit over the shower cord) and wine (and we try to do twist top just to prevent need for corkscrew!). It just goes to show you that one person's necessity is another person's junk.

To me THAT would be an un-necessary item to pack. Personally, I bring items that I feel will make my vacation more enjoyable. If you consider it junk, then don't pack those items yourself. To each his own.
beckzay Posted November 7, 2016 Author #32 Share Posted November 7, 2016 All of these ideas are great!!! There a few really important things that I definitely would have forgotten that we would use.

To each his own. "To each his own." Exactly my point. I wasn't bashing anyone and offering my suggestions that FOR SOME, less is more. What works for me isn't going to work for you.:) And the reason to bring wine is that they don't carry some of the wines we like to drink. And the ones that they do they charge $30 per bottle, for something I can get under $10 on shore. Plus, we have it in our room at our disposal rather than having to go to a bar. And at the end of the trip, its not coming home, so lightens the load.
bugsokc Posted November 7, 2016 #34 Share Posted November 7, 2016 Magnets... the walls are metal. We bring magnets to hold several things. One year we decorated our cabin using magnets (DD birthday) to hold up gift bags and balloons. :D Also,we bring a card for the light switches (I don't like to use my S&S card). An old casino card works great. We use a magnetic hook near the switch so when we leave the room we can hang it nearby.
Doggielover68 Posted November 7, 2016 #35 Share Posted November 7, 2016 Tape! Use it to pack fragile souvenirs, tape shampoo, conditioner etc bottles shut so they don't open up during travel, used it to fix a torn beach bag....the possibilities are endless lol Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app

I'd really like to surprise hubby with the Anniversary Toast Package but I'm finding it difficult to shell out the $80 (of which $40 would be for the bubbly that I priced locally at $11). Bringing it with isn't really an option for us as we have to fly in the night before. Packing bottles in checked baggage is a huge hassle.

Depending on the port/hotel there may be a W@lmart nearby that you can grab something. We have done that multiple times after flying in. We just carry a wine bag to carry our purchases.
