silversurf Posted November 10, 2016 #1 Share Posted November 10, 2016 We are in cabin B630, next to this cabin on the deck plan is a blank space. Does anyone know what this is? Is it liable to be noisy? We have some OBC and would like to book one or two of the speciality restaurants but want to use the MDR on Black Tie nights. When, if ever, does it show on Cruise Personaliser which nights are black Tie?
ChrisPBacon Posted November 10, 2016 #2 Share Posted November 10, 2016 I think the personaliser does at some stage before you go. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Scorpio41 Posted November 10, 2016 #3 Share Posted November 10, 2016 Black tie nights tend to be on sea days.
annieuk Posted November 11, 2016 #4 Share Posted November 11, 2016 You won't know which are the Black Tie nights until you get on board - they are not put on the Cruise Personaliser. I think this is because if they say which night is which and then it has to be altered people will moan. Usually the formal nights are on a Sea Day but occasionally this can change, particularly if there are bad weather conditions. We went on a Fjords cruise when the first formal night was supposed to be on the second day on board, a sea day going up the North Sea. The weather was bad during the night and into the morning, not many people at breakfast. During the morning it was announced that the formal night was to be postponed until the next evening as if passengers had been feeling unwell they wouldn't want a formal evening on that day. There used to be a list in your cabin when your boarded telling you which were the formal nights but this hasn't happened on our last few cruises. You can always ask at Reception or if you want to book one of the Select Dining restaurants they will always know which are the formal evenings. You can always book a Select Dining restaurant on your Cruise Personaliser and then change the date when you get on board if you find you've booked it on one of the formal evenings. ChrisPBacon Posted November 11, 2016 #5 Share Posted November 11, 2016 We did have it on our cruise personaliser at a certain point before we travelled to the Med in September. Not sure at what point they put it on, but they did. I remember because we were surprised they did 4 formals on a 12 nighter. mandylennon Posted November 11, 2016 #6 Share Posted November 11, 2016 The blank space opposite your cabing is probably storage or crew stairs. You won't hear anything from there. If you book the speciality restaurants and have to change dates or times there would be no problem with this once on board or you can wait till you are onboard to book using your obc, they sometimes have an offer of a free bottle of wine if you do (especially on the first night). They also offer cheaper lunchtime menus. As others have said formal nights are usually sea days and not the first or the last nights but you will not know for sure until you are onboard. Have a wonderful time, we love Ventura.
annieuk Posted November 11, 2016 #7 Share Posted November 11, 2016 Chris, they do put the number of Formal and Casual nights on your Cruise Personaliser but they don't put which nights they are - they don't give the dates - this is what the OP was asking. Or it could be the exhaust uptakes from the engines  There were some comments some time ago about certain cabins that were worth avoiding. edit - just found this topic, well worth reading as your cabin seems to be OK? http://boards.cruisecritic.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1440643&highlight=exhaust Edited November 11, 2016 by davecttr

Fair enough. I thought they told us the dates in the itinerary, because we had two on consecutive nights, but perhaps I'm wrong. Lady Mulberry Posted November 11, 2016 #11 Share Posted November 11, 2016 When we boarded Oriana this September and were waiting for cabins to be announced the waiters from the speciality restaurants were going round asking if we wanted to make bookings. They had the intinerary which also listed the formal nights, which made it easier to make bookings. When we got to our cabin we also had the same list in our welcome pack which was useful. It would be very useful if this information could be included on the Cruise Personaliser before you go, with the proviso that nights can be changed to due bad weather or other restrictions. GolferT Posted November 12, 2016 #12 Share Posted November 12, 2016 (edited) Just got back off Ventura yesterday, you can check what the dress codes are for each day once on board on your tv in your cabin. Or like others have said speak to reception. The offers on board were first night epicurean was 1/3 off for any time that night, then next few nights free bottle of wine if you dined between 6-6:30 (this was for sindhu and epicurean) We took a educated guess to when the formal nights would be as like you we wanted to eat in the select restaurants and we got it right, but like people say this can change at short notice, however when we realised epicurean was a 2 hour dining experience we simply rang up the restaurant and changed the times etc, no problems at all.........I know the epicurean was full one night but apart from that you could always get a table last minute. We pre booked epicurean for 2 nights before we left, however we loved it that much we ended up eating in there 4 times haha well worth the money........any other questions just ask Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app Edited November 12, 2016 by GolferT
