Internet Cafe and burning discs

Hi Everybody:

I am totally psyched, we are getting ready to go, looking for new luggage. And now, I am trying to figure out Camera stuff. My digital camera will take about 200 pictures before I have to download them to my laptop but this time, I don't think I will take the laptop.

Can you burn a disc of images at the Internet Cafe on the Star Princess? I would think the photo lab might do this too, but it is most likely a bit pricey.

Thanks

Blake

Blake... the answer is: no, you cannot burn CDs on the ship computers. Your best bet is to either have the Photo people do it or get another memory card. I didn't price out having the CD created but I believe I read on these boards that it's about $7.

You can also buy a portable storage device which can read the storage card onto it's disk. Search for "portable storage device" or "portable digital photo library". They are a bit pricey, but in the range of a 1GB CF card.

Alternately, you could just shoot some at a lower resolution. I get ~155 pictures at the highest resolution in fine jpg, which translates to over 600 pictures at 1024x768. That is fine for most uses on a PC. Anything that might get printed can be shot at full resolution.

On the other hand, you can neveer have too much memory! icon_wink.gif

Well a point in the right direction and a little research let me find a place in Venice to burn a disc. So at least I can start our cruise with a fresh memory card.

Here is the location and web site for your information.

I have not done this on ship, but if you can download to the computer on the ship from your camera, you could upload the pics to a site like www.imagestation.com or www.shutterfly.com. These are the two best that I have found. Plus, it is easier for you to share them with other people and best of all, IT IS FREE!

Meyerhaus, you can't download anything to a Princess computer. Depending on the ship and the internet cafe, the stations are networked and all you see or have access to is the monitor, keyboard and mouse.

I just bought a 512MB Compact Flash Card at Office Depot for $99. I thought that was a great price! I usually only do 4"X6" prints, so with those specs, I should get over 600 pictures and only have to take one card.

Hi Blake/All,

I am sure he won't mind me copying this but this is what Steve aka srphnx told me when I asked about the same thing "the ships photo lab will let you DL on to their PC all week and at the end burn a CD for you, the cost is about $20 US" although he was talking about the Diamond I could be wrong but I imagine it would be the same for all princess ships.

The photo department has a "subscription" service whereby you can take your card(s) in to them, they download all your pics to their computer throughout your cruise and then they burn them to a disk for you at the end. I think it might have been $19, but I that may be high. I figure that for the price of one of their 8X10s, that's not a bad deal.

Happy cruising!
