jarofmar Posted November 16, 2016 #1 Share Posted November 16, 2016 I'm going on my first cruise in January on the carnival victory and have been reading some bad things about how horrible the lines are at the buffet for breakfast and lunch. Is the main dining room open for breakfast and lunch or is the buffet the only option? Are the lines really that bad? Going on a 4 day cruise. On every cruise I have ever been on, most days there is a dining room open for Breakfast and Sea Day Lunches. I am an early riser, I might get my coffee from either room service or up on deck, but once my husband is awake, we like to hit the dining room for breakfast. cb at sea Posted November 16, 2016 #3 Share Posted November 16, 2016 The dining room definitely is the nicer breakfast option...table service...no searching for syrup or butter...no juggling plates and utensils while looking for a seat....so much more civilized! On sea days, the MDR is always open for brunch; generally 8 am - 1 pm. I am on vacation. I enjoy sitting down, chatting with my family and having someone else bring me my food. Take advantage of this because they have food not offered on the Lido deck like cereal crusted french toast, and steak and eggs. We will usually have a light snack with coffee/tea on lido and have a true brunch around 11, because I don't feel compelled to go twice with the same menu. I have also often seen the MDR open on port days for breakfast, but sometimes not. They have a traditional breakfast menu, and again, we always go because it is so nice to be served. On port days, the MDR is not open for lunch. But the crowds are much reduced because so many people are ashore during lunch; we usually are and enjoy eating the local flavors. jarofmar Posted November 16, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted November 16, 2016 Thank you! So is the mdr only open for breakfast or is it open for lunch as well on sea days?

You can find the menu on line. It has a mix of breakfast and lunch items and runs from about 8 am -1 pm.
A&Jfamily Posted November 16, 2016 #8 Share Posted November 16, 2016 Are the lines in mdr generally shorter than the buffet to get a table? I have never had to wait in a line to get seated in MDR. They use one of the large dining rooms and you walk up to the hostess and are seated at a table. The place is no where close to packed. At most there might be one or two groups ahead but it's no different than walking into a local restaurant and waiting for the group(s) ahead to be seated. You seem quite worried about lines...may I ask why?

Looking forward to my first cruise!
